question about Phase 2 frozen dinners

Hello! I am 8 weeks into SB, lost 25 pounds (WAHOO) and decided to reward myself with a SOUTH BEACH Frozen pizza. It said on the label how many carbs and even subtracting fiber, it seemed so high in carbs. I don't plan on overdoing the frozen meals, but it was a nice treat. Can any of you "carb guru's" out there tell me why all those carbs were not harmful? It felt sinful.

I am no expert, but on SB it is about "good carbs". The pizza crust is whole wheat, which is a good carb! I have had it once or twice too and it does feel like a big cheat, but I think now and then it is OK!

For us, all those carbs ARE harmful. Proceed with caution. South Beach is definitely about good carbs and we, in theory, don't count carbs. However, this is a bunch to throw at yourself all at once. See what happens over the next few days and if all is well, enjoy.

I'm so glad you posted this question. I had the same thought and I'm in Phase 2 also. I purchased the SB Wrap Sandwich Kits - Grill Chicken Ceasar. Thought - hey it's a SB product - should be good, legal, you know. Well it's got 23g carbs of which 14g are fiber -- but still nets to 9 carbs. It also has 24g protein, 10g fat, (of which 4.5g are saturated!). This seems like quite a bit of carbs and fat to me. The protein and fiber seem very good, though. So, I decided these are good for a treat - once in a while. Must say, I'm dissappointed that the SB products aren't "better" for us. Anyone else using the SB products in Phase 2?

I started out looking forward to the SB products but as you all are finding it's not all its cracked up to be. I feel eating more natural instead of processed is the better way for good health and all though the ready made meals are tempting they just don't satisfy like home cooked. JMO

OK, I'm confused. I thought we were not supposed to be counting carbs, if they were the "good" ones. A lot of us are eating beans and brown rice etc and they are pretty carby too! Although I do agree...for the most part it's best to stay away from the "product" foods.

I understand your confusion. While SB doesn't count carbs or limit them to a certain number, for a lot of people there is a level that the body can handle and beyond that you will start to put on weight again. For example, I cannot load on the carbs, good or not. The weight will start to pile back on. I've discovered a sensitivity to grains. Many people have a grain sensitivity and don't know it. Then when they eat several servings of nutritious whole grains, they will gain several pounds. If a person follows the plan by the book, he will be able to discover which foods will cause problems.

I, too, am very disappointed in the commercialization of the "products". A lot of people think that if it says SB on the label, it's got to be ok. Well, cookies are still cookies and sweet cereal is still sweet cereal.

A carb is a carb is a carb - GOOD or BAD!!!! I find it's easier just to stay AWAY from them. I would use EXTREME caution with the SB products!!!!

I live in Miami and run into people all the time that either know the Dr. (as a patient) or know his wife - an attorney! Apparently Mrs. A wanted to make even MORE bucks out of what her husband started and made a "deal" with Kraft foods to distribute products with the SB label. I don't believe you are "doing SB" if you're consuming these products. And - I don't believe that was the original intention of Dr. A. From what I understand - he - like Dr. Atkins devised this program for his patients - he too is a cardiologist. And in all fairness to him - I believe his intentions were good.

Rose1 - thank you for such a good answer to Patt3's Carb Question. You did a great job handling that and it gives me a better understanding also. I started on SB on Feb 1 and still trying to figure out what and how much affects ME - MY body. Thanks again.

Barbara Ray - You're right - A Carb is a Carb - good or bad! I'm going to imprint that on my brain. Thanks.

Eh, I've tried the phase one frozen meals and think they are yummy and very good to have in a pinch to keep me on track and keep me from cheating. In a pinch, they are good to have on hand IMO.
