Considering the jump from Atkins to SB

Today is day 14 of Atkins for me...and I'm miserable. The main cause of misery is the lack of variety in the Atkins menu. I feel as if I eat nothing but meat, cheese, eggs and a little bit of veggies. Oh, and pork rinds. Yum. (In case it's not obvious...that's a very sarcastic "yum"! )

My main worry about the switch is hunger. I know there are some of you who have made the switch...was hunger a major issue for you afterward?

I can't help but feel that SB HASSSSS to be healthier (just from looking at the food list!) but if I can't STICK to it, what's the point? And frankly, I can't stick to anything that leaves me starving to death.

So...will I be? Starving to death, that is? Ok, not literally, but you know what I mean!

I need feedback! (Pretty please with Splenda on top!)

Nope, you won't be hungry. You eat three meals a day, two snacks, a legal dessert after dinner. You eat until satisfied, not stuffed, but satisfied. There are lots of yummy recipes in the cookbooks if you are looking for something "different". Come on in, the water's fine.

I second what Rose said. I find that as long as I eat six smaller meals per day, I'm never hungry. Sometimes I find I don't even need my in between meals snacks.

A typical day's menu for me would be whole wheat cereal and skim milk for breakfast, yogurt for a mid-morning snack, tuna salad and 1 bag of SBD whole wheat crackers for lunch, 1 cup of cherries for an afternoon snack and then lean protein and a veggie with possibly 1/2 cup of brown rice or long grain converted rice for dinner and a sugar free chocolate pudding for dessert.

As you said, I couldn't stick with any plan where I feel hungry all the time and I don't usually get that feeling following this program.

Please let us know if you are going to join us, we would love to have you!

Come on in and join us!!

I also love SB. I came from Atkins. I eat more than the rest of these girls, but all legal, and am still losing steadily. Not fast, but losing. I love the food choices. I am not too hungry as far as cravings. I just like food and like to eat. I am going by the book, but if I am hungry at night, I still add a hb egg, or an extra cheese stick/half apple. Something like that. Any more questions, feel free to ask.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to do this. I went to the sticky notes and printed out the food lists and I'm headed to the grocery store.

We have to liven this board up, though! LOL

Hi everyone!
I have been lurking here for awhile..feeling the same as Yankee. I have been doing Atkins now for 2 years and have lost 42 pounds so far. I have 60 more to go (my personal goal). Recently, I have been reading up on SB and I'm beginning to think I would enjoy the change. I have already started (once in awhile) eating whole wheat products. I think I can live without the butter in order to feel healthier!

Anyone who switched from Atkins to SB...how did you feel? I really don't want to get that sleepy feeling after eating like I used to! I guess I'm a little afraid!!

Thanks~!

Hi,

I just made the switch from Atkins to South Beach.I started induction on Jan.1. I have lost 8.5# so far. When I did Atkins lost weight but then at a standstill I got disgusted and quit. I gained all of the weight back plus more. I really am happy doing SB. As Shelia said we are allowed snacks. So no need to be hungry. I am going in Phase 2 soon.Looking forward to Fruits and grain. Come aboard, I think you will be glad you did.

No, I didnt get sleepy after adding grains in. Its when I over eat sugars, like at Christmas time when I ate 1/2 pound of fudge... I was sick for two days, sleepy, etc. I learned my lesson!

I found that I gained a bunch of energy. I didn't do Atkin's just start right in on eating South Beach back in 03. At the time I started this way of eating I felt like a slug now all that's behind me and I'm moving all the time.

Welcome ladies! Glad to see you!

Thanks everyone for your responses!!

I think I'm gonna do it... ...YES..I am switching!!

Today, I faced the scale after two months of staying FAR away from it. I have been following the Atkins WOE closely...just was overeating the legal stuff (portion size way too big, etc.), so needless to say...I was shaking!! Well, after thinking I gained 20 lbs back..I only gained 6 back Not great..but much better than I thought!!

Anyway....I will continue to follow Atkins until I get a chance to purchase the SB book (hopefully I can run out tonight). I just feel like I should read up before switching. I also need to purchase some margarine!

Again, thanks everyone! I'm nervous but excited!!

Barb

Good Evening Everyone..

I am switching also..I have had major success with Atkins, but I have found I got bored with the options and ended up gaining the weight back more than a few times. I had tried to convince myself that I could live the Atkins way for the rest of my life..but it didn't work. I am bored and need a change. I am praying that SB is the right move for me. I have read your comments, which were all helpful. I will check in here often for moral support, and offer it when I can.

Can I ask a question? Is there a running thread that we will all chat on everyday or week?

I think we're ALL doing the right thing by doing SB! It's such a healthy way to eat! I doubt there's a dietician out there anywhere who would disagree.

Marlette - he is adorable!!! I remember when my son was that little (tear). Seeing your little one reminds me of my son. Anyway, I wish you the best on this program. I really enjoy the variety of foods we can eat and how good I feel. South Beach is the best of all worlds in that you don't have to count stuff (calories, fat, carbs) and you can eat whole wheat products while leaving the bad refined stuff alone.

hi girls...just lurking and reading... glad to see everyones success on SBD. I too am on week three of Atkins and have lost 8 pounds but am so sick of eggs and meat. Yea, I know there are other options out there for successful Atkins. But I like the idea of being able to have whole grain crackers or whole grain breads in a few weeks- phase 2- without having to bake substitutes (using Carbquick or polydextrose, which are both awesome products but I'm too lazy to bake all the time! ) Anyhoo! Thinking of switching over and having the same concerns I read here...hungry, not being able to control my eating once I switch to Phase 2 etc...Time to do some soul searching I guess...

Hi Renee..I am writing to you to offer support. I am still on week 1 of Phase 1. So I can't tell you if it is a negative change on the body. But what I can tell you is that I am much happier in this lifestyle. Right now, I can eat beans, and have low-fat milk. In another week, I will be able to eat cherries, oatmeal, strawberries, and whole grains and not feel guilty. I feel like I can live this lifestyle forever..it is more realistic than Atkins. I love Atkins, also and may be doing a combo of the 2 from time to time, but right now SB is the way for me.

I pray I have offered you some positive encouragement.

Hi Lisa..Sorry, I am not sure how I missed this post..Thanks for the compliment on my son..I have 2 other girls. He is my first boy and it is very different. He does things that my girls would have never thought of..I am blessed that I got to view the best of raising both sexes. It has been very interesting. So far I am really enjoying SB. I haven't been hungry that often, that is always a plus. I am so glad I considered giving this WOE a try. Thanks for all the support you offer.

I've been lurking around here too and am planningto switch from Atkins one of these days. I've done Atkins since 1999 !! I lost and maintained really well until I quit smoking almost two years ago. Since then, nothing has worked! But, I am planning to switch to add a little variety! I love beans and bean soup etc and would enjoy the WW things like the crackers and occassional bread!
It scares me a little to switch, though. I haven't found variety to be a problem, but I do a lot of cookingto keep it interesting. I have a cupboard full of things like Carbquick an carbalose flour etc. I am wondering if I can still use those???? I'm also scared of giving up butter and cream and cheese and mainly cream cheese!!!! I guess it's a trade-off! I do agree, SB seems healthier!
And I don't want to be hungry either. I tried Weight Watchers for 5 months last year and was starving all the time!
