Exercise Thread for the week of January 16-22
I just wanted to get the exercise thread started early in case I don't get to post tomorrow.
I have been taking the weekends off to rest up for the beating my body takes during the week from my classes at the gym. Monday I'm off so I'll do something at home, probably core secrets with weights. We'd love to hear from everyone! |

I ended up doing Cathe Friedrich's boot camp work out yesterday since I would have taken a boot camp class at the gym. Today is intermediate Step class. It should be fun but I'm still sore from yesterday. Yikes!
anj - great job with your running! I haven't done it since the classes started back at the gym and I miss it. You're inspiring me as usual! Thanks for checking in! |

thanks lisa - you inspire me too! I slacked for this last week and just seeing you posting to the exercise thread really encouraged me to get back at it.
Tonight I plan to lift lower body weights and run for a bit (if I get my shoes in the mail) or do the elliptical for awhile. I want to do pilates too! |

Great job ladies!!! We are on fire with all our work outs. We'll have great looking bodies by summer for sure. My sister and I are determined to wear - dare I say it - okay I will - bikinis this summer. I have a hard time getting my mind around the fact that I just typed it not to mention actually going to try any on! I'm so excited about the prospect. Nothing immodest of course but this will be my first 2 piece bathing suit - ever!!! So I have a lot of toning to do so I don't look like a beached whale. This goal just makes me more determined than ever to stick to my work outs!
Today is weight lifting class at the gym and I'm going to try to make the extreme abs class which is right before it if I can get some papers moved off my desk. So I'll stop typing now because the class starts in less than 30 minutes! I'll be back later!

Callanetics is a series of movements, very tiny ones that really work deep into the muscles. I love it. I got mine on Amazon, used for 4 dollars. Ebay also has some. I bought the 10/10 video workout. It is approx. 1 hr long when you first begin. After you learn the movements, you can do it in 40. I fast foward it. Any other questions just pm me and I will answer.
Sheila WTG guys. great job in exercise!! Oh there is a callenetic thread on the exercise board also..... |

One more question about callanetics. Is it like yoga or are their yoga like moves in it at all? Thanks for the info. I've been hearing so much about it and everyone seems to love this work out.
I didn't make it to the gym for class at all yesterday (boohoo). I was just too swamped with work. I didn't even take a lunch break! I did go home and do Cathe Friedrich's upper body work out with heavy weights followed by her on the ball abs routine. I've got two choices for my work out today. I'll either take an advanced step class or a grueling boot camp class. It almost doesn't make a difference because the instructor is the same and I call her step class psuedo boot camp because it's so tough. I've never gone to a step class where after it's over people just stand around (because they are dazed) dripping with sweat but almost unable to move. That's Tonya's step class. Tonya does the boot camp class after that and I haven't taken it yet because Step is so hard but I've got a meeting with my manager late this morning and may not make the Step class. I'll report back (if I'm still alive) after class and let you all know how it went! |

Hi Lisa.
Not sure on yoga, never did any. Can someone tell me how to run? How to start? When I walk, and try to run, I feel so heavy, and it just doesn't feel right, for one thing my boobs are too big.. but that has always been a desire of mine ...to run and for a distance too, not just up the road. Hi, Lisa
Callanetics is really not like yoga. It is small, delicate movements that activate your deep, underlying muscle groups that support your whole body. There is no bouncing or jerking or hard impact. It lifts and firms and strengthens your body from chin to toes. It pulls you in and tightens you up in a way no other exercise does. It is very, very different from a gym workout; dance students will find these exercises very familiar. Think dancer's body. You can lose a dress size or two without losing a pound! |

I did the elliptical today, lower bodyweights and pilates. I'm getting sick - which sucks!!!

You really need a good sports bra. Also, you'll need some good shoes. Until yesterday, I didn't realize how important this is. I had to return my new shoes cause they didn't fit, but I ran in them for a couple of weeks. When I went back to my old shoes (about 1 year old), I could barely run 1/4 of a mile. Yesterday I got my new shoes and all of a sudden I can run again. I ran 4.5 miles yesterday! |

What a great job everyone is doing. It's awesome to see the exercise thread so active these days!!!! You ladies are totally inspiring me to keep up the my routines. Thanks to each of you for being her for me!!!
Yesterday I ended up doing the boot camp work out. All I can say is Ouch!!! Tonya was tough on us. She made us get double risers for our steps and said that if anyone didn't keep up the whole class would have to start over again at the beginning. Even the men are afraid of her, I think! It was a great work out though. I'm still pretty sore this morning but in a good way.Today I'll do "on the ball" which is a weight lifting class on a stability ball followed by an extreme abs class. I can't wait to try my goal jeans on again this weekend. Ever had a day where you just felt skinnier? I feel that way today and notice my hips seem a bit smaller so I'm excited to try the jeans on and see how they fit. I'll even start taking pictures in them now so I can post "this is where I was" and "this is where I am now" photos. anj - hope you feel better! Great job with your exercise! Sheila - anj gave you some great advice about running. I'd definitely look into getting a good supportive sports bra. I still haven't found one I like and I've paid up to $35 for one. My "girls" are so deflated (went from 52 inch DDD to a 36DD) that they flop hopelessly around no matter what type of bra I wear. I love running so much I just don't care anymore. I also agree about the right running shoes. I have a pair of Nike Shoxx and I feel like I'm running on a cloud. There is virtually no impact when I hit the ground. I also started off with fast walking and worked my way up to a jog and then took my pace a bit faster and a bit faster. Now I can run/jog for 20 minutes straight which I am so proud of myself for being able to do this! My best friend is my ipod. I play my running songs and I'm good to go! rose - You are convincing me I should give this exercise a try. I have no idea where to get the tapes or DVDs. Can you recommend a place? Maybe I'll try a search on my county library site to see if they have any so I can give it a try first. I have my sister's pilates which is okay, I guess, but I feel so silly doing the moves. But I admit, when I did it kinda regularly, I did feel taller and longer somehow. |

I ran 3 miles today. It was kindof tough since I am still sick, but I'm glad I did it.
Have either of you guys tried Moving Comfort's Maia Bra. I just got one and it's very supportive. They don't compress either, which is nice. The bras are pricy ($40). They only come in size C - DD and are meant for high impact sports. |

Hi Lisa,
Amazon has used tapes cheap and they are exclusive for the DVD. Your library might have one. ebay has them sometimes, but some people have had trouble with tapes from ebay lately, so I would use Amazon. Also, the tapes seem to be turning up in the cheap tape bins at grocery stores and drugstores lately. We were at a dance competiton in Nashville today and found the quick hips and behind at Kroger for $1.25, so keep your eyes open! |
