*♥*Wednesday Check In - Nov. 9*♥*

Good Morning Beach Goers !! How is everyone today?

I'm doing well......sorta.....my 2 week sprial is shown in my stats. Gosh, WHY do I do that to myself? I was certainly on my way. My Christmas goal is pretty much impossible now, and I feel like I will never reach my 175 goal. AND to top it off.....I should really be below 175 (but that was me 25 yrs ago).

Anyway....my big problem is the weekend....or when we hang out with our neighbors. I have been antisocial, turned down invites, etc, because of my dieting and I hate that. Yes, I plan ahead, either eat before we go there or bring something SB friendly, but I seem to blow it.

OK....done venting. I've had 2 totally on program days this week.

Have a great, LEGAL day all !!

Hi Reg! Thanks for starting us off!

Congrats on the 2 "on program" days! Just string a few more of those together, and you're on that downward trend again! You will reach your 175 goal! You have identified the weekend issue as a stumbling block, so we need to all put our heads together and come up with a strategy that works for you! No wonder you've been having a tough time! I can tell you are a fun, social person, and it isn't good for you to deny that part of your life.

Everyone: Reg has tried a couple of things, " plan ahead, either eat before we go there or bring something SB friendly". What other suggestions can we give her?

Reg, it is really good to have you around more again! I have missed you!

Oh goodie.....help is on the way

While I was on Atkins, I tried to stay away from the neighbors because of the same reason. The Host & Hostess were always very supportive....tell me I look great, had some meats w/o marinades (I was a big beef eater on Atkins), they will even grill food I bring over. So, what the heck is my problem? The tools are all there......I just cave at the sight of foods that I love. THis weekend it was ½ of a baked potato and ½ ear of corn. I laugh at myself that I only put half of each on my plate.......but can someone explain the 2 pieces of Texas Toast that I ate too I chose the chicken with the BBQ sauce (kinda ate under the sauce, taking much of it off) instead of the sausage.

See....I try.....

I have to try harder.

Can't we do P1 from Sunday-Thursday, and P5 Friday and Satruday?

Hi Reg and Redqueen,

I don't post here often (but I am on here reading everyday, so I feel like I know all of you!), but I can totally relate to what you are going thru, Reg. I've been having the same problem on the weekends, usually not too bad, at least not until this weekend when I binged on bad carbs. And if finally all clicked for me (for good, I hope). I really felt lethargic and headachy on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday - had a really hard time waking up in the mornings. So I started eating OP again on Monday and drank a ton of water. And I knew it was working when I woke up before my alarm today and I can't get over how much better I feel. More energy, and just happier. So I am using that as my way to get thru the weekends - I'm just tired of feeling tired. I don't think I ever really knew how good I could feel until I started SB. (Before I always tried to get that "good" feeling with energy pills, more caffeine, etc. - but nothing compares to how I feel when I'm eating OP.) I hope this helps you. We are all behind you, cheering you on.

Good luck.

Lynne

Okay Reg! I have been thinking about your week-end issues all morning! I do have to say that it appears that you are doing the two most commonly suggested things (eating first and/or taking something legal to eat) to cope. So I guess I can only offer some thoughts on my own experiences.

Since my bout with pancreatitis & gall bladder surgery I have stayed away from alcohol. Dr. said it could take months for my pancreas to be "normal". I don't know if you drink or not, but I can certainly see a difference in my ability to stay on plan since I am not drinking. After a couple of drinks, it was easy for me to say "what the heck, a couple of bites of this and that can't hurt too bad!". But the truth is, I just didn't care about stopping at a couple of bites! Might be something to think about if it applies.

Another thing I've noticed is that if I am the host of a gathering, I am too busy taking care of things and making sure that everyone else has what they need to over eat! Plus, I can really control what is available. Sometimes, someone will show up with something EVIL, like the time a friend brought a chocolate fountain , but I politely thank them and staay far away! Now I realize that always being the host isn't an option, but I am surprised how often I can get our friends over here!

Lastly, have you told your friends/neighbors that you are trying to adopt a more healthy eating style and asked for their help? Most folks admire that as long as you use words like no sugar, healthy fats and whole grains. You gotta be careful about saying diet, carb-anything, or low fat in the same sentence...because everyone will have an opinion and you'll end up in a no win situation. Remember the girlfriend who invited me to a WW carb-laden dinner? I called her and she changed things around a bit. Now she always prepares things that are suitable for her WW & My SB diet! Now, that is a wonderful friend, eh?

None of this is anything new. You have probably had these thoughts yourself. But I thought it might spark some discussion here. This is an issue that we all face! Coping strategies are really a necessary part of our journey!

You nailed me

You are right.....looking back, I can deal with the neighbors when I'm not drinking (didnt drink for most of the summer, go figure). Now it's the fall.....Fall BBQ, sitting by the fireplace, and WINE !! YIKES !!

let me introduce myself...

Hi all,
New here...Well I have been a lurker of these boards for years, just never really posted much. I went to my doctor (my PCP which I have never even met - dont go there much) to talk about weightloss. I have been on this weightloss roller coaster ride for far too long and its time to get off. We discussed options and he suggested South Beach or other lower carb but not necessarily Atkins, not that he was opposed to Atkins. Since I have started and stopped Atkins more times than I have fingers, we thougth I should try South Beach, thinking lower fat would help with weight loss. I am going back to him in January to chart my progress. I tried accountability with my family - they are all skinny and have a lets eat cake attitude, I tried accountablility with a friend, she was worse at this than me and I tried accountability with WW, so the only thing left was the old doc. Anyway, I hope to keep up with the boards, read suggestions and get this weight off!

BTW, my name is Ashley, Im 31, my stats are 242/242/150-160, Im from Clearwater Florida and Im a stay at home mom/PTA Secretary with a real estate license. So with school and home I stay pretty busy.

Ashley

Welcome, Ashley! I did Atkins in HS and took off a ton of weight, but couldn't maintain. I'm not into structure. LOL

Reg - I'm glad that Chris could see where you're coming from to offer suggestions. I wasn't sure what to even say. I don't really like alcohol (except for the VERY rare girl drink back when I could have sugar). But it makes perfect sense. Maybe save the wine for nights at home, only. I can tell you really want to stay on... it's difficult when you have these other options. I can relate. That's great that they're willing to work with you, though. Definitely use that.

Hanging in there, here. I didn't exercise last night for the whole video because the VCR started acting funny. I tried to fix the tracking and even hunted down the manual to fix it and nothing worked. By the time I did all that nonsense, I didn't feel like exercising. *sigh* So forget VHS from now on...all DVD. I've got to exercise for our weekend! We leave a week from tomorrow!

We figured out what to do for Thanksgiving. Instead of cooking all the stuff ourselves and having to worry about "sampling," we're going to order a precooked meal from Safeway. Then we bring it home and finish it off by cooking for 2 hours. In the meantime we can make our own SB-friendly food for us. So everybody will be happy. It was an awesome deal from Safeway - $37 for a 10-12 lb turkey, 3 lbs mashed potatoes, 2 lbs stuffing, turkey gravy, pumpkin pie and cranberry sauce. We also have 3 Marie Callendar's pies that we bought awhile back that are sitting in our freezer - pumpkin, banana cream and chocolate silk, or something like that. I think what me and DH might do is get that SF cheesecake I saw at Safeway so that we're not even tempted to dig into the other pies. Then I'll do what that lady in the book did - cut it into slices and freeze them and have the VERY occasional treat. Just thinking outloud.

How is everyone doing?
