going back to low carbing after 2 surgeries
Hello:
I have been low carbing since May 2003. I had lost 65 lbs. I had hernia surgery on June 29, 2005 and heart surgery on September 16, 2005. I noticed that being in the hospital was very hard staying on low carb. Everyone was telling me i needed the carbs. Since I havent been able to cook and go get my own food I dont have much of a choice. In the past 3 weeks I have gained 10 pounds. Doctor said it might be fluids but I feel terrible. I have worked hard to keep my weight off. Before my surgery I was trying to get the whole family- 4 girls and a husband- to start eating better but since my surgery they are back to eating bad again. I really want to get back to low carbing but I am not able to exercise. The most I can walk is 15 minutes 2 x's daily. I start my cardiac therapy on November 7, 2005. I am also taking medication called toprol to slow down my heart which I wasn't taking before. Any advice on how to get started. Would appreciate any support! Mom of all girls |

Hi Mom! Welcome to the Beach! You have had a lot of health problems lately.
to you. Don't worry about not being able to exercise much. I don't think it's a big deal especially in the beginning. I don't recall working out until my second month on the program and I lost about 22 pounds the first month. This program is very doable but of course you should check with your doctors first and make sure that doing the Phase 1 strict program is going to be okay. Once you get the go ahead from them, you can just jump right in. The sticky's at the top of the forum page list the Phase 1 foods that are allowed with sample menus I believe, if you don't have the book. Post here often for support and encouragement. We would love to support you on your journey to good health. My hubby eats the SBD way with me but never could quite get our teen son to get on program all the way and now that he has his own job he eats terribly but he's 18 and it's his choice. Anyway, you can do this for you and your family and we're here for you when you need us!
