New to SB not to LC/Atkins
Just another one converting from Atkins to Southbeach effective yesterday. 34 yr old stay at home mom of a 3 yr old daughter. I have done Atkins a ton of times and always sucessful but the 'one bite of cheat' would make me gain SO much as I stayed in induction the whole time PLUS its just not a way of life, its too hard to maintain that so here I am... I started just 'dieting' and mild working out last Oct. topping my weight at 230 lbs..I started Atkins (again, lol) in May and workout 3-5x a week from my home w/videos and am at 169 today. I am scared I will gain on SB because WOW the options on this way of life are INCREDIBLE!!! I would think it would be very much LESS likely to 'cheat' on this way as well and am SO very excited. I dont have the book but I know atkins so well im hoping I can read enough..I did buy the handbook though to keep me a little more 'knowledged' about it but I still dont know portion sizes/etc.. My goal is to get to 145 or even 135 IF possible or depending on how I feel..the last time I lost all this weight was on Atkins after my daughters birth I went down to 145 so we shall see... This bulletin board SB area is FANTASTIC (as was the atkins one, dont get me wrong) I just really feel like this is just perfect for me and my family's lifestyles! Just wanted to say hi and thank you for such wonderful posts and information!!!

Lisa This is a great place to hang out. The stickies at the top of the page will help with portions, etc. Anytime you have a question, just ask. There are no dumb questions here. ![]() |

Hi Lisa! I just started SBD this week as well. I gained lots of weight when pregnant wtih my daughter, and after her birth (2 years ago!!!) I didn't seem to lose any of it - even though we nurse. So, I've decided NOW is the time to get in shape - FOR HER!!! There is so much I want to do with her and for her and I want to be healthy.
I too am an Atkins convert, and think this WOL will much better suit our whole family. Less tempting to cheat, and I can make all of us the same things. Welcome and happy beaching!!! ![]()

Here's another welcome to the Beach from one Lisa to another!
You will love it here. These ladies are so supportive just like the other LCF forums. I can't believe the varities of foods that are available with this way of eating. I will be celebrating my 2 year anniversary in another month or so and I sometimes still can't believe I can eat this way, be so satisfied and still lose weight. I have lost 110 pounds with about 10-15 to go to get to my goal let's get these last few pounds off together!

Lisa: Let me add my
to the bunch! We're always happy to see another new face on the BEACH! I am also a converted Atkid. I am so happy to have been coerced by my doctor into trying South Beach. It is great to eat like a "normal" person again! And it's working for me, which is the best benefit of all! I WILL be a HEALTHY person...and so will you!Congratulations on your choice! |

I just don't want to mess this up! I changed up an atkins recipe last night for dinner and will post it in a minute it was SOOOOOOOOOOOOO good! I Was SHOCKED what a fantastic dinner I had. No grease, no fatty atkins and SO satisfying and filling!! Thank you for your warm welcomes and I will be here reading always, lol!!

Hi, Lisa
There are no portion sizes except for a few things like beans and milk. It's eat until satisfied (not stuffed). We don't have to weigh and measure and even have room for snacks. As long as you are eating on plan foods, you will be fine. Use the menu sticky to get an idea of meal plans and ,of course, ask any questions. Post your menus if you want to and people can give you feedback.Emily's Mom |

Lisa, this is about the best example that we have on the eating plan. Hope this helps!
How to Adapt Your Meal Plan Phase I The South Beach Diet™ is designed so that you can easily swap meals and ingredients. If you don't like eggs for breakfast, have low-fat cottage cheese or lean meat instead. Not a fish lover? Then choose lean beef or poultry. In Phase 1 of the diet, you can eat as many proteins and vegetables as you like, plus fats like olive oil. Fruit and starches aren't allowed until Phase 2. Here's a look at some general eating guidelines. For specific food choices, check out the Phase 1 Foods to Enjoy & Avoid list. BREAKFAST Protein: Quantity is not limited. Start with a 2 oz. portion, eat slowly, go back for seconds if still hungry. Vegetables: Minimum 1/2 cup or 6-8 oz. tomato or vegetable juice. Fruit: None Starch: None Milk/Dairy: 2 cups allowed daily (including yogurt) Fat: 1 tsp mayonnaise, trans-free margarine, or oil (optional) SNACK Snacks are required. Choose a protein, vegetable, fat-free plain yogurt, or nuts/seeds. A snack that combines protein (1 oz.) and vegetables is encouraged. LUNCH Protein: Quantity is not limited. Start with a 3 oz. portion, eat slowly, go back for seconds if still hungry. Vegetables: Minimum 2 cups. We encourage you to include a serving of beans (1/3-1/2 cup) as part of your vegetables. Fruit: None Starch: None Milk/Dairy: 2 cups allowed daily (including yogurt) Fat: 1 Tbsp mayonnaise, trans-free margarine or oil, or 2 Tbsp salad dressing SNACK Snacks are required. Choose a protein, vegetable, fat-free plain yogurt, or nuts/seeds. A snack that combines protein (1 oz.) and vegetables is encouraged. DINNER Protein: Quantity is not limited. Start with a 3 oz. portion, eat slowly, go back for seconds if still hungry. Vegetables:Minimum 2 cups. We encourage you to include a serving of beans (1/3-1/2 cup) as part of your vegetables. Fruit: None Starch: None Milk/Dairy: 2 cups allowed daily (including yogurt) Fat: 1 Tbsp mayonnaise, trans-free margarine or oil, or 2 Tbsp salad dressing DESSERT / EVENING SNACK Desserts are optional. Enjoy some of your Sweet Treat allowance, a dessert, or any of the snack choices. SWEET TREATS Sweet Treats are products that contain sugar alcohols. You can enjoy them throughout the day to satisfy your sweet tooth — just limit yourself to roughly 75 calories worth per day to avoid any GI distress. See a list of Sweet Treat options here BEVERAGES Diet, decaffeinated, sugar-free drinks are not limited. You can enjoy caffeinated coffee or diet sodas with caffeine added, but limit to 1 - 2 servings per day. |

Lisa! This is a great board. I have done Atkins before also and while I wasn't very successful - I have heard that it is dangerous and can't be done long term. |
