Yogurt

Several people have mentioned eating yogurt. I love yogurt, but not plain. I believe Reg says she flavors hers with jello, is that right? If so Reg, how much jello per yogurt. Also, does the book say Fat Free Sugar Free plain yogurt (is there such a thing), or is it just Fat Free plain yogurt. Any yogurt recipes would be appreciated! :up

Fat free plain yogurt is good for phase I. You can add in things like vanilla extract, splenda, almond extract or sugar free syrups.

For Phase II, I've been eating and loving Dannon's Carb Control. It comes in 1/2 cup servings and is made with splenda. My favorite is the raspberry!! Yum!!

Thank you both for the suggestions. I love blueberries and had forgotten that I could buy them frozen. I am also planning to order some of the sugar free syrups (if they don't have them at Walmart) for coffee, but putting it in yogurt is a great idea! I love raspberry too!

I don't think the Dannon Carb Control is recommend on the SBD is it? The fat content is about 1/2 the calories. A better choice is the fat free, sugar free with us adding in our own fruit and art. sweetner. In phase 2, we can add in the artificially sweetened non-fat flavored yogurt (limit to 4 ounces daily and avoid varieties that contain high fructose corn syrup) but it still needs to be fat free.

Mine is a personal choice and its been working for me. Its more important to me to eat sugar free than it is to be fat free.

So I'll stick with my Dannon Carb Control, 60 calories per 1/2 cup, 25 cals , 3 gms, from fat is fine with me!!

Thanks for clarifyng it's a personal choice Judy. We all have some personal choices. I'm thinking we need to recommend program to newbies.

Yes, I agree with that!! Thats why I say for phase I, fat free and sugar free.

When we go into phase II, thats when modifications for personal taste come into play. Besides, South Beach is not a fat free food plan.

The best thing about this plan for me, is the freedom to make choices that work for us as individuals without feeling like we are breaking rules. It is what has kept me in it for the long haul.

From the SBD website:

I'm in phase 2 for the past 4 weeks. I found the Dannon Light N Fit Carb Control yogurt in the store and want to ask if it's ok. I know we're supposed to limit serving to 4 oz and this comes in a 4 oz container. I also know we're not on low carb but this seems to fit the plan. Calories 60, total fat 3g, sat fat 2g, cholestoral 10 mg, sodium 30 mg, potassium 80 mg, total carb 3g, fiber 0g, sugars 3g, protein 5g. Ingredients: water, ultra-filtered skim milk, cream, raspberry puree (there's also strawberries, peaches, and vanila flavors). Contains less than 1% whey protein concentrate, modified cord startch, kosher gelatin, natural and artificial flavors, sucralose (splenda brand), potassium sorbate, sodium citrate. Contains active yogurt cultures. Are the sat fat and sugars too high? I have this occasionally for my afternoon snack and count it towards my dairy. Please let me know if this is ok. The vanilla flavor only has 2g sugars. I tried it for breakfast but it seemed to cause cravings so I only have it in the afternoon or evening. Thank you.

Hi,
This is not a recommended product on the SBD. 50% of the calories come from fat. The yogurt that is recommended is a plain nonfat or a nonfat, 'artificially sweetened' nonfat yogurt that does not contain high fructose corn syrup.

I like the idea of flavoring my own yogurt because you can buy a big container and it's pretty cheap. But, Breyer's does make a low-fat, low sugar yogurt that I like. I know it is 14 or 15 carbs per 8 oz (depending on the flavor). I'll have to check out the fat content and the fructose.

1 cup boiling water into the blender
1 pack of sugar free jello......blend for a minute
add 1 6oz ct of FF/Plain yogurt into blender and whip
cool til set in fridge

This is a MUST HAVE for me.....I either have it for breakfast or as a pre breakfast snack (so I dont over do it). I usually have a 5oz dixie cup as a serving.

That is sooooo good Reg.

One thing we didn't answer for you pir8luvr --is there such a thing as sugar free yogurt. No, we can't find absolutely sugar free yogurt as all yogurt, and all milk products, contains lactose, a naturally-occurring sugar that’s low on the glycemic index. So, the nutrition list will show some sugar, just make sure it has no sugar added in the ingredients.
