Take a Loved One for a Checkup
Want to share your love with a friend or family member? On September 20, show how much you care by celebrating "Take a Loved One for a Checkup Day." Your support can inspire the important people in your life to take charge of their health. This health observance, sponsored by the department of health and human services, aims to improve the health of racial and ethnic minority populations — many of whom do not receive adequate healthcare — but everyone is encouraged to make an appointment with a healthcare professional or to help someone else do the same. Trips to the doctor can be frightening, but the truth is that many health problems can be prevented or treated with the right medical care. Having company can reduce the stress and worry associated with such visits. So consider accompanying loved ones to the doctor or to one of many community-sponsored health events near you. For more information or to find activities in your area, visit the Web site of the Closing the Health Gap campaign.
