A question for those of you who switched from Atkins..
What is the biggest difference between Atkins and South Beach? I've done Atkins before and have always done well, but I'm thinking of switching to SB.
I started reading the book last night and don't see much difference between the two, can anyone help me out? Thanks! ![]() |

The part that I can pick out is more beans than just green beans and also more of the dairy and grains. I won't touch whole wheat but will occasionaly have whole grain. Whole wheat to me is like brown colored white bread. A bit lower in fat since atkins will use whole fat products as in Mayo and dressings and use half and half in their coffee.

I've read that happens that it is slower. Just with atkins you do consume a bit more fat but the fat that you eat is used for fuel first and burn it out of your system instead the other way around of the carbs first for fuel and then the fat. usually for many their chol. is lowered even though they are eating more fat. Does that make any sense? Janet |

SB is also lower fat. You can have skim or low fat milk right away on SB. You have to use low fat/ fat free cheese, sour cream, beef etc.

My best friend's parents have been doing Atkins and they never, ever eat bread or fruit. I think that is taking it to the extreme because I know other people who did Atkins and they could have fruit (even strawberries in Phase 1).

_____________________________________________- During the Atkins Induction Phase you should not consume fruit, bread, pasta, grains, starchy vegetables, flour, sugar or legumes. That is for only the first two weeks. I do eat blackberries, strawberries, catalopes, rasberries. Janet |

If you're doing Atkins correctly you shouldn't be eating fruit, no matter which type in induction.

_______________- I saw on the information on southbeach too. No fruit during induction either plan. Now with apples, does anyone use something like nutbutter to dip the apples in to keep the insulin from doing a fast spike? The other fruits that I eat, don't spike it up fast. Janet or JC- I had to change my screen name from JClowcarb because I was getting razzed at work for that screen name! LOL! |

Now that is weird! I deleted Jclowcarb from comcast but still shows up on this board instead of the new screen name? Oh well! LOL!
Thanks for the peanut butter tip! What brand do you use that has no transfat in it nor sugar? Janet |

I also like peanut butter with an apple. I use either Skippy or Peter Pan no added sugar / reduced carb. I don't believe they have transfats either.
