Eating Out? Eat Right!
The following is an excerpt from the August issue of The South Beach Diet™ Newsletter — a publication printed monthly and packed with exclusive in-depth articles, diet tips, and brand-new, delicious recipes. Act now and get 2 issues risk-free! Dining out while following The South Beach Diet™ lifestyle? No matter what type of restaurant you choose, you can find healthy choices that you'll enjoy eating. Here's how: Go fish. As long as it isn't fried or soaked in butter, fish is often the healthiest option on the menu. Ask for yours grilled, baked, broiled, steamed, or blackened. Poultry can be another good choice, if you stick to the breast meat and remove the skin. Double your veggies. Replace potatoes, white rice, or pasta with a second helping of vegetables. Make sure they're steamed or lightly sautéed in olive oil. Ask for beans (black, red, kidney, or pinto), which are high in fiber and disease-fighting antioxidants. Another option: If you're on Phase 2 or 3, ask for brown rice, couscous, or whole-wheat pasta, or request a small helping of semolina pasta on the side. Opt for olive oil. Request your food be cooked with the "right" fats — olive oil or canola oil — instead of butter or other saturated fats. When in doubt, say salad. If nothing on the menu suits your lifestyle, have a salad. Just remember to ask for oil and vinegar instead of a pre-made dressing.
