Almond Flour
How does this stuff taste? I've never tried it but I do like to bake at times so I'm assuming to make say chocolate chip cookies, I could just use this and splenda and my other ingredients? Does almond flour rise? I need a good beach friendly brownie recipe and cookie recipe
Should bake the young uns something but alas.....I'm skeptical and need to go search out recipes on the boards...... |

Almond flour is nothing but ground almonds. It takes a bit of time to make but it's super easy and cheaper than buying the prepared stuff (if you want to bother with it!). Just get raw almonds at your local grocery store, blanch and peel them (the skins slide right off once they've had a short bath in hot water), let them dry and stick them in the food processor or blender - a smallish amount at a time.
It tastes wonderful but of course has a lot of fat in it from the nuts. A nice combination would be almond flour with oat flour - would increase nutritional stuff and lower the fat a bit. Ground hazelnuts are also a fabulous thing to use - my sister used to bake with them a lot because my niece had drastic allergies to wheat. It won't rise because it's just almonds - add a bit of baking powder and soda to the recipe and experiment with it! Last edited by Margy : 09-13-2005 at 07:42 AM. |
