Thoughts on the water challenge...
With all the water-drinking going on lately, we thought this might be interesting to everone involved in the water challenges!!! I posted the info to the water challenge thread, but then thought it might get lost there, so I'm starting it as a new thread. Hope you enjoy!
Oh, Mom wrote all the info below, which is actually what this whole post is about, never mind all my talking! There is a fascinating book, "Water for Health, For Healing, For Life", subtitled "You're Not Sick, You're Thirsty" in which F. Batmanghelidj, M.D. explains what happens to your body when you try to substitute other fluids for water. I know most mainstream doctors believe that any fluid can count as your "water" intake. I even heard one popular Dr. (who admits to being addicted to coffee) tell a caller to his radio show that her two pots of coffee a day gave her plenty of water. There is very good current scientific research that shows that your body uses more of its water reserves to process and flush out the residues of these other drinks than it takes in from the drinks. One of our local doctors, who is a big water advocate, puts his elderly patients on a minimum of ten glasses a day and they invariably report sleeping better, having more energy, and being more alert. He also tells anyone who wants to lose weight to cut out all soda, diet or otherwise, because of what it does to your body. I think that this discussion is interesting and it appears to me that everyone is really interested in the water question. I think it is good to explore these questions as we try to improve ourselves. One thing I really like about this forum is most people are trying to be healthy, not just skinny at any cost. ![]() Hugs, Emily and her Mom, Barbara

Oh my that's a big DITTO from me as well. Water should be taken all by itself or you aren't getting the right stuff.
