Need Advice - Atkins WOE didn't agree w/me
Hi, I could use any & all advice. I've tried Atkins a few times in the past few years. The first time was fairly successful, I lost slower than others but I was so happy to be losing! I stopped because around week 6 ( not sure of the #) I started getting serious stomach cramping, and almost constant diarhea. The minute i stopped, it went away.
The next time I tried it, it started in week 3. The last time I tried it, my trouble started at the end of week 1. I tried all sorts of helpful advice, but each time I had to "give up" because my work and lifestyle weren't working around my new bathroom schedule I'm interested in trying S.B. Here's a little more about me - I'm hypothyroid, I was "normal" weight (115) and then rapidly gained 75 pounds when i was undiagnosed for mroe than a year! I lost 10 on Atkins and have not gained it back. I do work out a lot, maybe 4 times a week. It's a struggle, sometimes my energy level fluctuates, but I always try to do something fitness-wise because it makes me feel much better. I've almost given up on the idea of losing weight, but S.B. sounds really interesting. I'm just worried about the first 2 weeks & having the diarhea problem return. Could I take it slower? Obviously my weight loss wouldn't be very good, but if I wasn't sick, I could stick to it! I tried talking to a friend who works in nutrition. She highly supports the S.B. WOE, but she kept saying it my symptoms were from withdrawal. But I don't agree - why would they have started in week SIX when I started Atkins? And I felt GREAT otherwise, no headaches, just these intense stomachaches , etc. that came on with little or no warning. Thanks if you can offer any advice for hypo's & S.B.!!!

Hi changemylife,
Wow, that's a downer about the cramps, did you go to the Dr.? It could have been from dehydration, gallbladder, IBS, food allergy, several things that come to mind. Sure, jump right in. Phase 1 is to help curb the carb cravings but nothing written in stone that one can't begin in P2. Your exercise sounds great! I'm hypo too...... medication, exercise and SBD is working good for me! if you decide to join in! We're all here for support! |
