Stats on SB vs Atkins ...

Been wondering about this. As some of you know I kinda fell off the wagon a bit for a few days. Nothing major, but overnight a 5 lb water gain. I just cant get my mind to believe that is normal (pls dont flame me lol ) I mean, when we eat one tiny little thing and whooooosh! 5lbs of fluid. Your body is amazing and can adapt well to many things, but that to me isnt normal, I digress. What kind of wtloss are you all having with SB ? How much and in what time frame ? I dont want to add many carbs, because I KNOW I need lc. but, I want to know that if I eat one thing, one time that I won't have that bad of a physical reaction as well. I like lc, but I am struggling with what I should do thats best , long term. I want something livable, and me being human I want something that when I do stray momentarily, I would be penalized for it for the next week. TIA !

Hi Lisa, sorry we SBDer's haven't been on board to answer your question today. Some will probably be in later to post....no flaming from the SBDer's, ......

No concrete answer for you here other than what we're all learning about low carb, the more the carbs are restricted, the more the fluid loss initially. Things usually even out when there isn't much difference in a day to day eating plan. The average weight loss on SBD is 1-2 lbs a week when on program. Some weeks less, some weeks more. The average fluid gains are usually about 2 lbs. SBD incorporatates more carbs during induction, thus, less rapid overall fluid loss.

Here are couple of threads that might help...

WOE: Vegetarian version of SB
Start Date: June, 2005
Hi Lisa---This is the Mom half of the duo here. I know what you mean about the weight gain. I can gain 3-5 lbs. in two days and it will take the next MONTH to get it off. Now, I know it's got to be fluid, but if it comes overnight, WHY doesn't it GO overnight! I have the metabolism of a slug. In Phase 1, I lost about 1 lb a week and in phase 2, I lose 1 lb a week IF I'm lucky--more like 1/2 lb a week. I think because we are vegetarians, the loss is slower. However, with wise food choices, SB is a very healthful, balanced way of life. We have always eaten whole foods, fresh fruits and vegs, but the emphasis was on whole grains which I've discovered don't work well with my system. After about three months on SB, I can have slice of ww bread or 1/2 ww pita or wasa, kavli, or AkMak crackers once or twice a week without causing trouble. Reasonable amounts of fruit maybe twice a week seem to be ok. Maybe having my last child at age 43 threw my metabolism out of whack. I could not lose the weight I gained no matter how little I ate. I do know that the whole family feels better, sleeps better, has more energy when we eat this way. Some of us are tightening up and going "Back To Basics" for a while. Check out that thread and maybe join in!

Hi Lisa...

Marva pretty much said it all with her links. I started out on SB...stayed with it for about 3mths then went to atkins for a little while and now I am back on SB. I like SB better because I feel weird putting high fat meats and such in my body. SB feels like a healthy atkins... I did well on both programs, but SB is what I prefer. In the first 14 days I lost 12lbs and I think that helped motivate me and keep me on track. Good luck to you! We are here for support when you need us!

WOE: whatever currently works!
Hi Lisa - I'm new to SBD as well - lost 8 pounds in almost two weeks - I say almost because Sunday night I decided to "eat whatever I want" at PF Chang's and then went out for ice cream.

Can you say 4 pounds overnight? I knew that you could. But I went STRAIGHT back to SBD the next day and I'm back down 2 already. It can be done - but the way I look at this, it's really changing my way of eating for the better - I don't plan to make cheating a habit (and it wasn't THAT bad of a cheat - but chinese food is notoriously high in salt anyway!)

Just figured I'd add my 2 cents Hope it helps and good luck!
Bridget

I have gone from 245 to 166 since October 2004. No one ever believed I weighed 245. I guess I hold my weight well, whatever that means... I still have maybe 30 lbs to go and hopefully can reach it by Christmas. Along with watching my carb intake I walk about 30 min a day sometimes more and drink my water. I love Apples with Pnut butter and Green Beans are my Favorite Veg! I have had many stalls since March of 2005 and also going up and down on the scale, but other than that things are good. I wish you much success!!!! If I can do this anyone can!
