Hi!
I read on one of your posts that you went from WW to SB. I did Atkins for several years and then this spring tried WW. I am thinking of switching to SB so have been looking around this site and some others.
Have you preferred SB to WW? What do you like better about it? What kind of salad dressings do you use on SB? I have been using all the low fat/ff ones on WW and am sick of those!
How about popcorn? Is that allowed on later phases?
I'm also a little confused about the whole grain breads. Can you find these in grocery stores? I assume the ones that say whole wheat bread are not the same.
Any help/advice you can give me will be appreciated. I just feel hungry all the time on WW!! I would just go back to Atkins, but SB sounded like a nice compromise!

Hi Patt....hope this helps!

Have you preferred SB to WW?
Yes

What do you like better about it?
I've always loved WW but every time I went on it, I find myself spending so many points on fat free potato chips, pasta, etc and never gave up the sugar and was always hungry. Then I was out of points and I would have to eat veggies or I'd save my points up and eat most of them at night. I really believe this is when I became aware I had become a night binge eater.

I don't do this with SBD....I'm making better choices in not having the bad carbs and sugar.........

Now, the thing is, I had the choice to do the very same thing doing WW, I just didn't because the structure wasn't there to do that but rather the thought with WW is....you can have anything you want, just eat within your point range. I didn't make the best choices, my fault. With SBD I've learned a better way of eating and I won't be going back to that old woe.

What kind of salad dressings do you use on SB?
I use full fat dressings, my favorite being Golden Farms Creamy Vidalia Onion Ranch. I also use Wishbone Carb Options Ranch, Hellmann's Canola Real Mayonnaise, Olive oil and rice vinegar and balsamic vinegar. I do buy the light version of Hellmann's when it's on sale sometimes. I love Blue Cheese and sometimes eat it, but I always fork my dressings to eat less.

I have been using all the low fat/ff ones on WW and am sick of those!
I don't like them ff either and Dr. A says no to FF ones and Limited to light.

How about popcorn? Is that allowed on later phases?
Air-popped, plain Popcorn is program in P2 and is listed as good......
The microwave popped is limited to very limited, meaning no more than once a week and it's wiser not eat more often than every 2 or 3 months. 2 cups serving size.

I'm also a little confused about the whole grain breads. Can you find these in grocery stores? I assume the ones that say whole wheat bread are not the same.

Yes, whole grains meaning not instant-oatmeal, bulgur, barley, buckwheat, couscous, brown rice, etc. The breads should begin with 100% whole wheat or whole grain or stone ground wheat, 3 gms of fiber and up per serving is good.

Any help/advice you can give me will be appreciated. I just feel hungry all the time on WW!! I would just go back to Atkins, but SB sounded like a nice compromise!

I did Atkins '72 and loved it....but I abused the fat, especially with the meats and then got to the point that I was eating too many calories and the weight loss stopped, again, my fault. I also found I didn't think I could be satisfied with the program long term as I do like carbs and didn't like the fluid gains after eating them, even with beans, I thought that wasn't even in my long term eating way of life. I was also concerned about the fat in relation to my heart health. Another factor, I was so tired of diets and having to learn serving sizes, points, etc., I didn't want to have to learn carb count.

SBD was exactly what I wanted long term, no guilt, no intense hunger, more variety, a whole wheat hamburger bun with no fluid gain, beans, etc. I love it and it's working for me. I still can't eat without structure, but then why should I think it's okay? Few thin people eat that way anyhow, I didn't before I gained my weight.

Also.....establishing the night eating curfew is another of the best things I've ever done for me in relation to my eating. I know everyone doesn't need it, but I did.

I don't even mind throwing this in, if at any point, my appetite and cravings come back to the point that I can't control them doing SBD Phase 1, I wouldn't hesitate to drop back to a couple days to a week of lean meat, eggs, and salad only to get rid of the sugar monster. A somewhat lean version of Atkins '72 induction or a stricter version of SBD phase 1, whichever one would choose to call it.

Patt, I hope you find what works for you too, we'd love to have you join in with us if you decide to. Good luck!

Thanks so much, Marva. That was very helpful. I do plan to "come to the beach" after Labor Day. Why then? So I can finish out the summer with the darn low fat chips and ice cream bars!! LOL!! Oh, and corn on the cob too!
I did the same as you. I have abused those things! Until then, I will be hanging around here learning from all of you!!
