Food Scale Recommendations

Tell me the good, the bad, the ugly

What kind of food scale you have, what you like about it, and if you hate it, I'd like to know that too

Thanks.

Ours is a Polder digital scale, and I absolutely love it! It has a 4.5 pound limit and will weigh either in grams or 1/8 oz increments. It's got a removable bowl, which is really nice because I can either throw my stuff straight in, or I can put my mixing bowls on top, and zero out the weight- which brings us to the "tare" button- one of my best friends! I love being able to add X amount of an ingredient, zero out the weight, and add my next ingredient. Also, you can switch from grams to ounces just by flipping a little switch on the bottom, so I can add, say, 3/4 pound of butter, switch to grams, and add 400 grams of flour. All right, so that's an example from my non-low carb baking, but you get my drift!

Ha ha ha!! I have lost over 100 pounds and still lossing without using a scale for food. I went through that way back when I was in weight watchers eons ago and found it to be a pain. This plan is great as you don't need anything but staying on program.

Wow the Polder sounds great!

I'm a firm believer in scales when I'm in control, can't help it, a habit that goes back to my WW days too. I use the small 16 oz WW ones daily, love them and then have some Good Food digital ones I bought at Wal-Mart, they're good but not as handy as my trusty little ones. Do you remember that 9 pennies weighs an oz if you want to see how accurate they are?

Sharon, you make me feel like a bad SBDer not using portion control, You go girl!

I want to make sure my burgers are 3oz, and how much deli cut cheese I'm actually eating since the thickness always varies. I tend to eat too much cheese.

Reg, I'm sure you know this, but if you want it to be 3 oz cooked, start with a 4 oz uncooked patty, an ounce is usually lost in shrinkage while cooking it.
