Cool Whip Lite

I was at my local grocery store and picked up some Cool Whip Lite because it had the "South Beach Diet Recommended" label on the side. However, it has 20 calories, 3 grams of carbs and 1 gram of sugar for 2 tablespoons, but has corn syrup and fructose in it.

Is this okay for Phase 1? I was going to mix a small amount in with my ff plain yogurt. Also, I picked up some whey protein powder to mix with some 1% milk - since that's allowed too.

Any thoughts?

I use cool whip lite in my frozen peanut butter cup dessert every now and then. I think it is okay, but you need to count the calories as part of your 75 sugar free calories allowed each day.

someone correct me if I am wrong

Yes to the cool whip lite, all phases, 2 T serving size, take the calorie count from the Sweet treats. I know, the corn syrup and fructose puzzles me too? I see you have the revised handquide, check out page 106, think it's there.

Several of our beachers use the whey protein powder, he gives a G rating in all phases to Atkins Advantage, Carb solution and Eas Control, Keto and Slim Fast Meal Shake. I'm thinking those are soy protein and not whey but I can't see why it wouldn't be okay. See page 96 and 97

ETA: Hi Lacy, our posts crossed, we agree,

Thank you for the replies. I'm eating 4 ounces of nonfat plain yogurt right with now with a tablespoon of Cool Whip Lite. I'm really glad that nonfat plain yogurt and 1% milk were added to the "foods to enjoy" list.

Is lowfat plain yogurt okay too? I wasn't sure when I was in the store and picked up the nonfat because I knew I couldn't go wrong with it.

I went through this not long ago when I needed Cool Whip for a very UN-low carb dessert I was taking to a party...

I pulled the nutrition/ingredient info off of Kraft's website. The regular actually has 1 less carb, and way less "junk" and fillers in it than the light! It has only 5 more calories and 1/2 a gram more fat than the light. To me, I'd rather have the few extra calories than all the extra fillers they put in to make up for the lack of fat.

Actually, I'm not crazy about the way Cool Whip tastes anyway, and since real cream is so easy to whip... Can you see where I'm headed with this???

Cool Whip Lite: Ingredients: WATER, CORN SYRUP, HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, HYDROGENATED VEGETABLE OIL (COCONUT AND PALM KERNEL OILS), LESS THAN 2% OF SODIUM CASEINATE (FROM MILK), NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR, MODIFIED FOOD STARCH, XANTHAN AND GUAR GUMS, POLYSORBATE 60, SORBITAN MONOSTEARATE, SODIUM POLYPHOSPHATES, BETA CAROTENE (COLOR).

Nutrition Info: 20 Calories, 1 gram Fat, 3 grams Carbs.

Regular Cool Whip: Ingredients: WATER, CORN SYRUP, HYDROGENATED VEGETABLE OIL (COCONUT AND PALM KERNEL OILS), HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, LESS THAN 2% OF SODIUM CASEINATE (FROM MILK), NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR, XANTHAN AND GUAR GUMS, POLYSORBATE 60, SORBITAN MONOSTEARATE, BETA CAROTENE (COLOR).

Nutrition Info: 25 Calories, 1.5 grams Fat, 2 grams Carbs.

I have no clue why they would put the South Beach approval on the light stuff, unless it's because it has less fat???
