Seeking Out Support
Those looking to change their eating habits and have a strong support network are more likely to succeed in their goals over the long term. Here's how to get the support you'll need to stay on track:
The first place to look for support is with your family. They are around you on a daily basis and can encourage you during mealtimes or activity times. They may choose to join you on this lifestyle or help support you with making healthy choices. Of course, sometimes even the most well-meaning family member can end up putting pressure on you, so be sure to keep an open line of communication with your loved ones.
If your family isn't prepared to support you, try turning to a friend or confidant. The two of you can agree to follow The South Beach Diet™ together and help support each other's progress. Or, as an alternative, you can ask them to be available for phone calls or walks when you need some reinforcement.
Another option is to sign up for The South Beach Diet™ Online Beach Buddy program. With this site feature, you can find someone who shares similar interests or goals and ask them to follow the diet along with you. Like friends and family, a Beach Buddy can support you through ups and downs and even swap recipes and tips. The South Beach Diet™ Online also has a robust supportive community on the Message Boards. Each day, people share their trials and tribulations and give each other encouraging words and helpful tips.
