switching from Atkins to SB
Hiya,
I have been on and off Atkins for years now, and a week ago last Sunday I started Atkins induction, so I'm ten days into it, no cheats, ketosis...Great! I've lost a pant size. But maybe it's time to try something different where I can keep the weight off more easily for longer periods of time...maybe for good. I rollercoaster too much for Atkins, and I foresee going down the same road in a couple months and regaining it all back. Oh, and besides, my arm pits smell like cat spray when in ketosis- eeeeeww. Okay gross, sorry... trying to encourage myself to try SB. I would like to lose a few more pant sizes, I have no scale as I threw mine out after getting obsessed with the numbers game, but I am guessing 15lbs is about what I would like to lose....at least. So I got the book and started this morning....so far so good. Ketosis killed my appetite, but this afternoon I actually felt a hunger pang LOL...s'okay, felt kind of nice actually. I think this may be a better way of eating for me. I expect I may stop losing a little, or even gain a little while incorporating the different foods, but I am trying to keep the attitude that it WILL work in the long run. After reading all the threads of those switching over from atkins I thought I might post and share my own experience. Hope its' a good one LOL. Nice to meet everyone, LJ

I am planning on switching from Atkins to South Beach on Tuesday. I need to get groceries or I would start tomorrow. I have already read the book and am looking forward to getting started.

Hi Rachel! wow, you have done well on atkins.
Good luck shopping...I shopped this morning, it was hard not to look on the labels for carbs! Need a new mindset. I have bought only a few things so far mentioned in SB book. Like 1%milk to replace cream for my coffee. For a treat -riccotta lowfat cheese, cocoa and almond extract for a treat that was mentioned in book. "Laughing cow" cheese which was pricey but glad I did, omg, so yummy! I had some on celery, very creamy, delicious! Also got some turkey bacon to replace my regular bacon...it was just as good with eggs for breakfast....had to have three slices instead of two as suggested though ![]() I'm struggling with replacing the cream in my coffee, but other than that day one is over and so far so good. LJ: I know it is gonna be really tough not to just focus on the carb count. I'm a little worried about that. My brain has been focused on carbs from the last 3 years!! I have already switched to LC skim milk from LC 2% milk and some lower fat meats and low fat cottage cheese. What is laughing cow cheese?

Laughing cow cheese the the best darn cheese ever. seriously. It's a soft cheese that comes in a cardboard whell and inside are like 8 little pie shaped wedges of the yummiest creamisrt cheese ever. i got my flavors in french onion and garlic and herb. This stiff is also great for roll ups for lunch 1 wedge will go a long way.

Morning Racel and Leigh
Leigh...try the cheese! I only found one kind in my store, swiss, but I will look for the other varieties in another place I shop occassionally. So yummy. Oh, I found it in the deli section of the store, not with the regular dairy products. I am having my first coffee of the morning, with cream. I know it's not allowed. If it keeps me from losing, I will adjust. I'm more addicted to my coffee and cream than to anything else in my diet!!! I made the mistake of not eating dinner last night and then ate way to many almonds. I was upset about something and just could'nt stomach eating a meal. On atkins in ketosis I could've gotten away not eating w/o cravings kicking in... need to keep in mind BALANCE! LJ |

Maybe this will help... maybe not. When I missed my cream I made my instant coffee with just milk (no water). It was better than a splash of milk in the coffee. If you don't like instant maybe if you made the coffee really strong and added it to a cup of milk? I also make "frappacinos" from milk, davinci and instant coffee diluted with a tsp of water to keep the coffee crystals from floating around in it. Just a thought...... |

Hi All,
I just went back to South Beach on Monday, after doing Weight Watchers for a few years - where I had great success. I lost about seven pounds in two weeks when I did it last summer. How much water do you all drink daily? I drink about a gallon a day. |

Theres is a discussion board - all South Beach for all different levels. Prevention was the first to back the South Beach, I believe. There's a lot of information there. |
