Just wondering

Hey guys- I wrote to you all last week asking about the Lowcarb Addict's diet. I read the book and decided that it was just too much of a risk for me to take- the reward meal.
So since then I've done nothing- I am totally disgusted- but have picked up the SouthBeach Diet and read it. I am wondering if there is some sort of averge weight loss for the first 2 weeks. The book says from 8 to 14- I am looking for a realistic goal for a 51 year old female. I think it sounds like a doable plan- not so different than the low carb regimen I've been on.
Thanks again for your advice. I am in need of something, quick! This weight loss of 8-12 lbs the first two weeks sounds very encouraging.

I lost 13 my first two weeks. Everyone is different though. I was 188 when I started SB so I got to 175 in phase 1.

The proclaimed 8-14 is based on people starting from no dietary restrictions (lots of sugar and flour) and losing a lot of water weight by eliminating bad carbs, so it's definitely a YMMV thing. I switched from fairly strict Atkins (OWL-ish) to P2 of SBD and lost a few pounds in the first few weeks, then concentrated on maintaining my goal weight. I am 5'2" 124lbs and fairly young - I probably could have lost more, but I wasn't trying to. If you have a lot to lose and you cut out the carbs, it's going to show a lot faster on the scale than if you are closer to goal and already eating pretty clean. HTH and good luck finding something that works for you.

If you are going from already low carbing to Phase 1, don;t expect to lose much because it's not much different. I lost 4 lbs my first 2 weeks on phase 1. I personally don't have expectations and just take what happens.

Healthy, true fat loss will be no more, on average, than 1-2 lbs a week. If you lose more you are looking at water weight loss or worst of all, muscle loss.
