thinking of switching... any advice?
Well, I've followed atkins and lost a lot of weight (30+ pounds) with more to go... lately I've been "cheating" with milk, small amounts of illegal treats, etc. I've been wanting to try South Beach but am afraid I'll gain or stall with the milk allowed, fruit allowed etc. even though I know it would suit my lifestyle better. I'd also love to lost 20+ pounds in the next 8-10 weeks. Is this sort of weight loss possible with South Beach? Any advice, or testimonials or experiences would be greatly appreciated!

I'm on South Beach and have been for the last year and a half. I love it! I enjoy eating a lot of the things you mentioned like milk and fruit. I also enjoy not counting carbs or calories or fat grams or anything else. I experienced some pretty dramatic weight loss during Phase 1 but I was eating terribly before I started the program and I was 100 pounds heavier but I lost 14 pounds the first two weeks.
Phase 1 is pretty much like Atkins induction - it's in Phase 2 that you add the "good" carbs back into your diet. Many people that have come over to SBD from Atkins skip Phase 1 because they have already cleaned out their system so to speak and just don't feel they need it. Since you have been eating some things you shouldn't, you probably want to do a clean Phase 1 (2 week period) and then move into Phase 2. I would recommend drinking tons of water, daily exercise and being realistic in what you expect to lose in the 8-10 week period. Do I think 20 pounds is possible? Yep, I sure do. If you commit to the program, don't cheat and get in plenty of exercise. I was losing 1 to 3.5 pounds per week during the early stages of Phase 2 and only now that I am getting close to goal has my weight loss slowed to a crawl. I'm sure you'll get other helpful suggestions and testimonials. I hope this helps and we'd love to have you join us on the Beach!
