Switching from Atkins to South Beach
My husband and I have been on Atkins for over two years and have each lost about 40 pounds. Our weight loss, however, has stalled completely, though we haven't regained any of the lost weight. We are, respectively in our late 50's/early 60's. We each have another 20 - 25 pounds to lose.
A former diabetic, the best part about Atkins is that I have been free of meds for these two years, with my endocrinologist's approval and consistently "normal" blood sugar levels. My husband, particularly, would like to shift to South Beach because he is really tired of Atkins, and really misses fruit and real whole grain bread (though I noted that cheese "must" be low fat which I am not sure he realizes and we do eat a lot of cheese). I have a couple of questions. Having already done "induction" on Atkins, if one shifts to South Beach, must you begin with Phase one, or can you begin with Phase two? Is there anyone else out there who is successfully controlling diabetes with South beach? My experience with Atkins is that I cannot eat many of the foods my husband can eat (such as those containing sugar alcohol) because certain "legal" low carb food do cause a rise in my blood sugar. Are there "older" folks out there who have jump started a weigh loss by a shift to South beach? Thanx for your thoughts.

I switched from strict Atkins to something similar to South Beach phase 2 and have lost a lot of weight and I really feel great too. I'm 38. I really enjoy the choices I have too.
