Little upset...

Hi Everyone,

I started SB diet 6 days ago at 155 lbs and went down three pounds by Thursday. I haven't cheated or done anything different and both Saturday and Sunday I've been up one pound. Now I'm 153.

It seems I've lost two total pounds in 6 days. I'm upset becuase I never lose weight on diets and this plateau seems premature considering I'm on phase one.

My diet:

B: eggs with two slices bacon or omelette
coffee with equal and skim
L: salad with oil/vinegar dressing
s: pistachios
coffee with equal and skim
d: chicken and veggies or JUST veggies
s: sugar free pudding

Water 40+ ounces per day.

Do you think I"m doing something wrong here?

Thanks in advance everyone!
Natalie

You need to give it time. Bacon and other things have high sodium so you could be retaining water. I don't see anything wrong with your menu so I would lay off the scale for a little bit and keep doing what you'e doing. It doesn't seem like a plateau either. It's only been a few days. Weight in not a constant downward motion. There are always ups and downs. That's why you should only weigh once a week.

Hi Natalie, I too am like you, I've hit a platau. I do think though I eat a tad to much at one sitting. My portions are a little much. I'm on day 7 of my diet and I've lost about 5lbs. I was expecting much more, but I *know* this is good.
When I get frusturated. I remind myself that even though the weight isn't flying off me, this is VERY healthy for me. My Cholesterol numbers are showing an addiction to carbs. - So, I need this diet. I know it's helping my pancreas, liver, blood sugar, heart. ALL of that.

I agree with the bacon. The only bacon we've eaten is Turkey Bacon, and that isn't very much of it.
Are you using "The south beach diet, good fat's Good carbs guide"? - That's like my bible.
It also says in here, that instant pudding (even sugar free with reduced fat milk) should be avoided.
Try replacing your pudding with jello (sugar free of course)

Also, make sure to do even moderate exercise. It's so hard because I've been biking my butt off all week. I mean, many, many miles.

One thing I didn't do that I wish I would have is, take measurements. I *know* I'm getting more defined in my shoulders, and near my knees and my stomach is shrinking. And I know you'll lose a lot of inches and not necessarly a lot on the scale. So, that can also be it.

Just don't give up. This diet is SO hard. (at least for me anyway) I adore carbs, I'm a stay at home Mother, so this is so hard for me. I was cooking my kids spaghetti the other night, grilled chicken patties with french fries. Oh man. I'm so proud of myself for following through though.

Maybe we can help each other along. I'm getting SO sick of my diet. Everything is tasting the same. Last night we had roast - The good kind, and I LOVED it. My body was craving red meat like you don't know! Tonight it's salmon

Also, I'm not drinking a ton of water. I know you should, yadda yadda yadda, but for *me* it just bloats me. Another wierd thing is I don't even WANT to drink it. I guess my body knows I'm getting pleanty of water through all the salad and veggies I'm eating.

Well, sorry for making this so darn long. Thanks for reading. You can DO this. We're not suppose to lose 20lbs in the first week. Tha'd be way to easy. So, change a few things..... exercise and KNOW in your heart that you're making yourself healthy!

Take care,
laur

Hi Natalie.....

Denise is right about the water retention and weighing, etc.

I would suggest you eating more. As I remember, you've been extremely tired a few days this week, perhaps some protein with the salads at lunch an dinner would help, especially since you're exercising.

Sometimes it's hard to pin it down, if you were on a diet prior to SBD, your weight loss will be less than if you weren't.

Good luck, hang in, keep posting and doing your menu and you'll find your answer!

Marva

Hi laur, just as was going to hit submit, I saw your post. Thanks for sharing .

Hi Natalie,
Just stick it out for a cpl of weeks and you will see this WOE will work.
Your menu is not SB though. You need to have a veggie, protein, dairy in every meal. Your breaky doesnt have a veggie, your lunch doesnt have protein and your dinner must have protein and veggie-not just veggies. Your calories are way low.. Are you exercising? If so, dont expect much of a loss in the first 2 months of exercising because your body will hold onto water in your fat cells when fat is released.

Good luck, all of us have to do a little tweaking to get what our body needs to lose weight. Dont worry, it will come...

Don't forget the dreaded pms bloat most of us deal with as a possibility too. After losing for months now, tom is most definitely a factor in how and when I lose. As a woman the hormones do factor in. Just pay attention to possible problem foods that could be causing the fluid retention.

You are NOT on any plateau... you just started!

Average, healthy weight loss is 1-2 lbs per week so you are doing just fine.

You must give it time. You did not gain the weight in a week and it will take longer than a week or a month to lose it.

Follow the plan and trust that it works. And quit weighing yourself everyday. Once a week at absolute most but don't consider it "official" except for once a month.

Many things can cause our weight to fluctuate a few lbs on a daily basis.

Don't panic and you will get there. This WOL does work.
