Dairy question

Before I start this.....I see that 2-3 cups of milk/dairy including yogurt is allowed daily....but the cheese list is seperate. Question....if I eat cottage cheese or another cheese, is that part of my allowed 2-3 cups of dairy? I'm a little confused. I could easily see myself eating a lot of cottage cheese with homegrown tomato.

Hi Pam,

No, it isn't, me too , I love it with tomatoes or salsa too.

Things can be confusing as cottage cheese is a milk product but it is denser and contains more calories per serving size, a milk serving of 8 oz is about 80 calories whereas 1/2 c of cottage cheese is about that, I'm sure the protein numbers are different too. This is the only reason I can think of that he listed it separately.

Cottage Cheese (1/2 cup unless stated) Calories
Cottage Cheese, creamed, 1 tbsp 13
Cottage Cheese, creamed 101
Cottage Cheese, 2% fat 101
Cottage Cheese, 1% fat 82
Cottage Cheese, fat-free 80

Hope this helps, and good luck! We're glad you're joining in with us!

Hi everyone and thanks for the answer. So about how much cottage cheese do you think would be acceptable per day?

I've only been reading up on SB for a couple of days and I'm looking to start around the 16th of June when my job ends. I can see I've got more studying to do.

Pam, it's your choice but in the book he shows a serving of 1/2 c as a snack one day and 3/4 c as a lunch selection another day. I think the easiest way to learn it is to go by the menus in the book as an example until you get the flow of it, if you don't like the selections, change them with same group items but basically follow the plans. Just use your own judgment, it will work.

We're all here to learn and support, just jump right in,
