help SBers
Ok I am totally stuck on what to do here...........I want to do a diet but I am haivng a hard time.. my blood sugar drops, cant fix it w/ LC.. I LOVE south beach but I cant find a way to stay on it w/o problms (esp w/ my schedule I need stuff to keep me up!)
I wish there was a way to combine Atkins and SB but still have a bit of brown rice and still lose weight!!! My *thought* is try and do a combo of the two so I'm not losing out of the non carby foods I do enjoy.. basically watch my fats in OILS and butter (both of which I hate using, most of the time) I love cream of whatever soups.. infact in my crockpot I have a giant can of cream of chicken soup w/ a whole chicken.. so yummy but its prob not "ok" I need cheap easy foods and most cheap, filling foods are not exactly low in carbs.. here's my idea for my work day menu, tell me how bad it is breakfast/lunch (same meal) fried bologna w/ a veggie Snack: Cheese Dinner 3-4oz of some form of meat, veggie w/ cheese Snack: 1/4 cup nuts Snack: Peparoni bites get home snack: beef jerky but those are just minor ideas.. i kinda suck at ideas.. i'm so totally lost on what to do for the best way of eating.. from all my experience I've learned that white rice and white flour products are bad. but i'm not an Atkins woman, it messed up my blood sugar too bad (not to mention the migranes) what do y a'll suggest???

eggs are cheap and easy. you can vary them with lf cheeses and veggies. Beans are cheap and once you get to phase 2, you can add in rice. yogurt and oatmeal and on the list for phase 2
you can have skim or lf milk, you might could make some of your own cream soups. It won't be exactly the same, but it might get you through. I would switch out the bologna, pepperoni and jerky for something not processed. Canned tuna, chicken, or salmon would be better choices and are inexpensive. Catch chicken breasts on sale and make up a bunch to have around for snacks and salads. these are just a few ideas. some of the others may be around and have more for you. |

how about canadian bacon instead of the bologna and stuff?
I like to make a bunch of stuff on the weekends so I have no excuse during the week. I can just grab and heat. |

I know what you mean about $$ and stuff you already have. I have things around I know I'm going to have to use up that aren't on plan because I hate throwing it away and wasting money. I'm trying to wait though, and maybe DH will eat it instead of me

How far are you into induction, seems like you should be at or almost at Phase 2? Self had some excellent ideas! I bought a pkg of 7 chicken breasts today for $5.99, I baked them all and have then frozen ready to eat, cabbage was on sale as was lettuce and big packages of frozen veggies, $1.00 a bag, and so was pork loin and that would last lots of meals, that's what I do, shop the sales, eat what's in season. But I don't think that's all you're asking here. First, your blood sugar is dropping, wouldn't you also need more carbs for that along with your proteins? I'm just guessing. As I remember, you get a lot of great exercise on the bike so you are probably needing more protein and carbs. I think combining the two would be fine, brown rice is a good carb. Your chicken is good, I don't know how the soup figures but I'm guessing it's a comfort food? I have some comfort foods too. How do you think could you make that dish better? Maybe just with broth and some veggies, even some brown rice thown in? I'm also reading you are working around a budget. I'd get rid of the bologna, nuts are expensive as is cheese, pepperoni and jerky and try for some less expensive whole foods. First, I'd make a list of things I felt I needed to eat for the low blood sugar and to feel good and be healthy, then I'd list the things that I liked and things the family liked from the food lists, then I'd set aside how much money I was willing to spend on groceries and work from there. Then find food stores or markets that cater to low prices and what you need. I know budgets, Dh and I raised 3 kiddos on a really tight one. After you have those things more fine tuned, I think working a menu and grocery list and would be less frustrating. It's all about setting limits and making choices and it isn't easy, that's why we're all here working on some of these same things as you. I hope some of this has helped, wish I had more thoughts for you. Good luck! Going on into Phase 2 might help you, oatmeal would be an awesome get home meal for you after work in the a.m after the bike ride. I'm sure more ideas will be posted for you, take care and keep us posted because we do care! Marva Last edited by justmarvi : 06-04-2005 at 10:46 PM. |

thanks guys.. no i am back on phase 1. i was having too much trouble w/ switching to a new diet, a new exercise program and a new sleep schedule so I decided to wait til i was at work for 2 weeks before I went back OP....
I have the nuts b/c they keep me awake at midnight when I'm about to keel over and sleep LOL (cheese is b/c i am a cheese woman!) Canadian bacon.. i love the stuff but budget wize OMG that stuff is 'spensive!! This week I will eat the bologna mainly b/c I just bought it but not much!! (I think my exercise will help me LOL) I want so bad to make this work.. but i am so picky (w/ food) and I only have $50 a week to spend on food for 3 people......... I think THIS WEEK I'll just use what I have and stay as much OP as I can but use the stuff I bought.. (ps what to use for cream of chicken soup! I love to use this w/ a whole chicken and throw it in the crock pot! cheap easy meal that sooooo good) |

canadian bacon isn't that pricey if you can get it from Sams. I think last time I picked some up it was $7 for 3 lbs.
good luck. I'm sure you can make the plan work for you. |

I think you are smart to eat what you have and then work from there. Boil some eggs, they are life savers for me. Get you husband to help you make some of the decisions after showing him the food list, sometimes that takes a load off! Good luck!

Here is a lower carb cream of mushroom soup recipe...
http://users3.ev1.net/~fontlady/crea...room_soup.html I haven't used it that recipe. I love my cream of mushroom soups in alot of recipes (think cheap casserole dishes which I am the queen of ) Another option might be is to thin about your cream of mushroom soup by adding more milk to the mix and double the recipes. While not true SB it might eliminate the white flour/sugar. |
