wino gets clean start
all you can't-I-have-wine-onphase1 folks out there...I started on 5/21 and for the first time (been on a diet most of my life) made a committment to NO WINE for two weeks...scarey thought for those of us who drink wine every day
well.....day one I did have some cravings but I have just gotten past day four and I feel GREAT!!! and most amazing of all, my old excuse "I'll never get to sleep without wine"...can't use that one anymore...for the past fpur nights I have fallen asleep at 9:30-10:30 and gotten up at a normal hour... NOT waking up in the middle of the night and unable to go back to sleep!!! a flipping miracle, as far as I'm concerned..... in my case, I now realize that If I replace the "liquid intake" in the evening with something "tangy" I am fine....it's not the alcohol it's the having a drink in one's hand - and the liquid intake that I missed...day one I panicked a little around 8:30 pm - but did not give into it...also attended a beautiful reception where the wine flowed, and was happy with sparkling water instead of wine, I have been drining low sodium tomato puree with seltzer to make a frothy tomato cocktail...filling and tangy...and helping me to drink the water...I think I could have a bartender concoct a similar drink if I ever had to - more stisfying than plain sparkling water I AM AMAZED and frankly, don't think I should attempt wine on a daily basis ever again...frankly, I am afraid to take the first sip... I also had a experience with some peanut butter - which I didn't realize had sugar in it - so on day four I experienced my first midly "outta control - need more of that feeling".... tossed out the peanut butter and will replace it with SF BUT...the point is being driven home to me LOUD and CLEAR you have a sugar problem, girl!!! I rarely eat sugar because a) my mother was a diabetic and b) because I preferred to have wine rather than dessert.....HELLO!!!!! I have finally been faced with how much in denial I really was about the wine!!! and after a lifetime of dieting (low carb, low fat you name it vegetarian, every diet known to man) and still battling the pounds........ three days on the beach and I am AWARE of my demons like never before count me in....I am psyched has anyone had a similar experience? do you think vodka would be a better drink in future...or am I just kidding myself? ![]() |

Good for you. I've never been much of a wine drinker myself but I recently gave up the beer and pretty much all alcohol. I too feel much better and am no longer giving up part of my precious weekends nursing hangovers. I get hungover really easy, I don't even have to get totally drunk to have a hangover the next day.
I felt that if I was going to try and take better care of myself diet-wise then I needed to give up that part of my diet. Now if I can just get my husband to give it up too, he did switch to diet coke to mix with his bourbon. I won't nag him about it but I want to keep him around as long as possible. Good going Gofifi, we all behind you. Pam |

I've found alcohol to be murder on sleep patterns as well. Even blood sugar is definitely the answer for me! Good for you taking the plunge.

i hear ya loud and clear!
i got into different wines recently, around this past holiday season. somehow i accumulated like 10 bottles of wine, all kinds too, a merlot, a german white wine, shiraz, pinot noir (my favorite!) .... some others, some cheap some not... but i really got the taste for it and loved that little bit of a sleepy buzz from having a glass at the end of the day. i did pick up on the habit forming quickly though thank the Good Lord... since alcoholism and addictions run in my family and i have been on the brink of a pain killer addiction twice before as well! what was i thinking!? i don't know but i eased up and save it for special occasions now! and also, i can definately relate to having just a tad of something that triggers a "need more of that!" feeling, refer to my post i am about to write - oops! i'll be on the lookout for that kind of situation more for sure! stay motivated though, you sound like you are well on a great path to success! ~jackie~

five days ago when I started phase one I was thinking - look it's only 2 weeks until you can have some wine...now I am thinking...how long can I go without having wine? once you get rid of the cravings, you can THINK STRAIGHT!!! nice reward for a few days of yummy food!! last one on the beach is a rotten egg!!! : ![]() |
