Low free T3 level

I'm working with a naturopath to sort out my low free T3 levels and wondered how long it may take to feel better? FYI I was on synthroid for 20 years with supposedly good TSH levels each year....it wasn't until I began seeing a naturopath that I had more detailed blood work done and lo and behold, the drug isn't doing the trick.

Thanks, in advance, for replies.

What are you taking for T3?

Your problem was allowing your doctor to NOT test T3 during those 20 years--something that's all too common.

I'm fortunate because both of my endos have tested T4 and T3 regularly since I was diagnosed about 15 years ago. Ironically, even though my T3 was tested every 4 months at my check ups, my T3 'tanked' almost overnight, and I had no idea what was wrong.

I have Hashi's, and apparently conversion problems [T4 fails to convert to T3] are common with Hashi's. But once my endo saw the problem, he prescribed Cytomel (T3), which I take along with my Synthroid (T4). Unlike Synthroid, Cytomel is fast acting, so I had relief within 24 hours, and my T3 levels are maintained.

Like Leo said, T3 meds work very quickly (within a few hours quickly). T3 is a powerful hormone though, so what takes time is slowly increasing your dose until you hit the right spot without going too high.
