Lack of energy

Hi all,
Is there anything that can be done with lack of energy during induction? I was thinking of supplements like:

caffeine (like take one vivarin)
Ginkgo Biloba
green tea

Just curious if anyone had taken any of the above.

For me, I have tons and tons of energy when I first start a low carb diet. Conversely, I tried being a low-fat vegan a while ago and I wanted to die.

I think this diet can be right for a lot of people, but if you find that you are having low energy, getting headaches, feeling moody... this may simply not be the way your body ought to function.

That said, if it's just a simple dip in energy, it should go away in a couple of days on its own. It could be your body's just having trouble changing gears and that the act of burning its own fat for fuel is "tiring."

I haven't taken those supplements but I have found that using coconut oil has really helped improve my energy levels. I use it for cooking. Also MCT oil is pretty handy too depending how it's used.

Steeler, if you just started it is called the Keto Flu. It will pass once your body learns how to adjust to burning fat for energy. If you are experiencing fatigue past the first week, then I would NOT recommend taking those supplements. You should be able to derive enough energy from the food you eat. Fats are your friend and filling up on those will keep your energy up. Butter, coconut oil, mayo, etc. Also, you can try a cup of beef or chicken broth to up your sodium intake as that is the culprit for fatigue a lot of times.

I'm doing better with super low carbs this time from taking a low carb (1 gram of carb/stevia sweetened) electrolyte tablet in water. Summer is hot enough but combined with water loss from early days of low carbing it can be brutal. I would focus on getting plenty of sodium to avoid energy slumps like BMac says.

I've been dealing with an awful headache three days into induction. Chugging a ton of water, so hoping today is better! I have to snack to keep my energy up.

Scale has moved though, 3.4 pounds.

Yep, induction flu. Water, salt everything you eat (low sodium really did me in). Be sure you snack on low/zero carb foods. And keep your fat high! Another mistake I made was trying to go low fat. It should pass soon!

Steel, Phinney and Voltek say low salt can cause fatigue and advise increasing salt intake to allow your kidneys to function properly. They suggest adding in some stock. Hope that helps!

I know people will tan my hide for saying this, but, out of desperation I reached for a Red Bull (sugar free). The taurine and caffeine really helped. I felt better immediately. But then, induction flu goes away on its own in a few days, and then it's like someone flips a switch and turns you into the Energizer Bunny.
