But seriously, NO cravings???

Hi Everyone,

So, I'm usually just a lurker, but if I never post again, I want to say thank you to everyone who has shared their experience with this WOE. I was going to try Atkins again after reading Why We Get Fat and ended up here after googling lc recipes. I'd never even heard the terms ketogenic diet, nutritional ketosis, or lchf.

I am 38 year old woman who has struggled with weight since about 18 years old. Like lots of us, I'm sure, I have tried it all. This is the FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE that my eating to lose does not revolve around mental gymnastics - when/how/what can I sneak a cheat - always knowing that the only one being cheated on is me - but not really being able to control myself. Usually, the wanna-be-healthy me lost the mental game and I would slide right back into the pit of despair and the ugly cycle continued.

I started with the ketogenic diet on March 18th and have lost somewhere around 10 pounds of real weight. All the while, not wanting to "cheat" and not even having cravings. Most of the time, I just feel incredibly satisfied. I had a strong craving today as I watched my husband eat a few bbq kettle potato chips (an old favorite) but that is literally the first craving that I've had IN A MONTH, and it was easy to dismiss. I actually "cheated" a couple of weeks ago by eating two pieces of pizza at our annual anniversary dinner at a local pizzeria. About 4 am, my stomach decided it was done digesting that garbage. It was a highly unpleasant experience and I'm actually glad that I am associating wheat-based carbs with feeling poorly and throwing up. Goodbye, pasta, my former love, I won't miss you!

The longer I do this and the more reading I do, the more I'm understanding my body and food and our relationship and this feels like a permanent life change.

Mind blown.

Isn't it great? Sounds like you're doing wonderfully, keep up the good work.

Yeah I don't get (non-carb) cravings either, usually. I think I get one maybe a couple times a month. Have only cheated maybe 4-5 times since I started the diet in early Feb.

Typically when I get a craving of some sort I either go eat a chunk of butter or, if at work, do my dark chocolate-and-butter snack. Does the trick.

Congratulations! Low carb diets can be a huge change but they are completely worth it in my experience. Losing weight is not even half of the benefits from a low carb diet. I just wish I knew 20 years earlier but better late than never.

Good luck with your WOE and I hope you'll drop out of lurkerdom occasionally to let us know how you're going.
