Trader Joe's

Just went to Trader Joe's and they had uncured (no nitrates) bacon ends and pieces for $2.99 a pound. When I got it home I unwrapped it and most of the package was in regular slices, just like regular bacon. It tastes the same as regular bacon. I also bought pork belly, kerrygold butter, crème fraiche, and a ribeye steak. I hardly ever have steak. Does anyone know the best way to cook it? I don't want to ruin it because it's expensive.

I love TJ's rib eyes! I just pan sear mine in a very hot skillet a few minutes each side to your desired doneness. It comes out really crispy on the outside - enjoy

Salt, Pepper & Garlic on the steak and grill if you have it or sear it in a hot pan with butter and finish in the oven.

Trader Joe's is so great. I just got some great vegetables, almond flour, and 4 carb marinara sauce there. They also have great prices on olive oil.

I like to bake bacon at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes. If you save your grease, add it to the pan before you add the bacon. It seems to cook better in a little bit of grease.

Oh Trader Joe's how I love thee -

The bacon pieces are great for cooking with Kale
I also buy their hollandaise sauce - I eat it daily.

Another good find at TJ's yesterday was shelf-stable HWC. It was 8 oz for less than 1.50 - it will be great to have HWC on hand.

Yes, AND on Balsamic Vinegar. Their TJ Modena is great tasting compared to other brands at this low of a price, and only 2 carbs per TBLS, less than other brands that are more sugary. LOVE me some balsamic.

Scintillady---Agree w/posters above on great ways to do a steak. I also sometimes like to put a scoop of Boursin herb and garlic cheese on the steak just before it's done, till it gets just a bit melty, then top w/a sprinkle of fried shallots. YUM.

I wish we had a TJ here. I read so many like tj.. They are building 2 in the Tampa area. It would be about a 45 minute drive but I might ask my husband to take me there, when the stores are finished. I microwave bacon. Supposedly microwaving destroys the nitrates. Not sure if that's true but read it online.

They sure do and I happen to love it - is it better for you than home made? absolutely not but I think it's a good alternative for me for now with lack of time to make it

the info: 2 tbs: 170 cal, 18 grams fat, 0 carbs, 1 g protein

I usually have 3 tbs with 2 pieces of bacon and 2 eggs. Sometimes having Maria's keto bread

So tina, turns out I couldn't wait, LOL. Went to TJ's and got the Hollandaise and made eggs Benedict for brunch w/a GLCBC bagel and canadian bacon.

OMG, I'm in heaven. Tasted as good as home made to me. So easy and so reasonably priced. And it will be good on veggies too. Thanks for this tip!

Are you talking about the TJ's sprouted wheat, 4 NCs a slice, bread? The yellow label?

If so, bummer that both places were out of it. Sunday can be a dicey time to shop as it's the end of the weekend and like much of retail business, it runs out of gas on Sunday, and really gets started again on a Monday.

I LOVE Trader Joe's sprouted wheat bread. Was lucky to find it in stock when I grocery shopped today. So hang in there, and try it tomorrow or the next day. Remember, you can ALWAYS call your local TJs, before you come, and find out if what you want is in stock.

I haven't heard the microwaving thing before. Nitrates are water soluble. I can eat ham and bacon if I soak them in water before cooking. Otherwise, I get a headache from the nitrates. It has the added bonus of reducing the sodium, too.

Every time I read something else about TJ's, the more I wish we had one around here. But on a good note, I went to Aldi's today and found the uncured bacon there for $2.89 a pound. I am grateful that we have an Aldi. They may not have as much as Trader Joe's, but I consider them a Trader Joe's on a smaller scale. (same company)
