coconut oil....good or bad?

I was just reading on a major website that any oil that gets hard at room temperature is not good. I know I have been using coconut oil and it does get hard at room temperature. What are your thoughts on CO? Thank you!!

LOVE coconut oil and use it for everything. I use it on my skin, on my teeth, and to cook with. There's way too much evidence that coconut oil is good for you to discount it.

Coconut oil is all good:
1. Stable for high temperature cooking
2. Supplies the body with medium chain triglycerides which bypass the liver and provide good energy.
3. This is a heart and brain healthy fat! It's not just that it's not harmful, it's good for you--there are websites that explain more fully.
4. It can help the constipation people complain of on low carb--BUT, start SLOWLY. 1 tsp per day at first, then increase gradually. Otherwise you may regret it.
5. It's only solid if your kitchen is consistently below 75 degrees. In the summer, mine is liquid. I buy the big, Costco sized containers, and put some in a smaller jar so it's easier to dig out on cold days.
6. It's an acquired taste, but I like it.
7. You can use coconut oil externally on your skin and lips. Look up "oil pulling" to see what it can do for your oral health.

The web site was differentiating between saturated fat and unsaturated fat. It is old school and about 100% wrong. Coconut oil is particularly good on a number of levels but on a ketogenic woe, it is very good due to it's ability to provide ketones very easily.

to everything said up above!!

I use coconut oil all the time for everything mentioned (oil pulling, face and body lotion, hair, eating by the spoon, cooking, baking, oil pulling, etc) up above, so it is very good for you. I even have my husband and kids using it.

I have used coconut oil since going LC and had great results with it. I just recently bought a jar of organic CO because Wal Mart was out of the cheaper brand I usually get. I like the organic better and will keep buying it.
As of 5/19/2014, No longer "overweight"!
