When The Scale Won't Move

Just found this amazing list of suggestions for times when the scale won't move or you're just not motivated. Excellent.

That is good and totally relevant for me right now!

If it is OK with you guys, I'm going to take a moment and focus on what I'm doing well (#10) although the scale is not moving.

I have stuck to my plan since the start of the fitness challenge 2/1 and logged since then six days of weight lifting, 280 minutes of aerobics classes, 62 minutes of HIIT, 215 minutes of walking.

I've improved the nutritional quality of my diet and increased the protein and veggies (change it up, #6), and counted everything (weighing and measuring) and stuck to my calorie goals the last four days in a row.

I come here to be inspired by my amazing BUDDDs. (#7)

So, I have to feel good about that no matter what the scale says, right? Anyone else want to share their good things/things you're doing well?

Excellent, Chris! And with the scale not moving #3 also applies, you're practicing maintenance.

Wow, CC. This is a really great article. Christina and I are in the same boat right now, experiencing many of the same things, and doing the same things.

I love focusing on the positive, and the one I need to really do, and have to be reminded of, is #5 - Remembering where I came from. I had someone very bluntly put that thought in front of me this last week. He wouldn't have any of my discontent about nothing seeming to be happening. He flatly stated that I couldn't possibly be unhappy about where I was when I've had this amazing journey, and reminded me that I would have killed then, to have the body I do have right now. So true!

That is such a great point, Carol! It's so great to remember how far we've come. Even if we'd like to go farther, it's very important to keep that perspective of progress accomplished, and also gratitude that we are not rapidly regaining. I'm no longer morbidly obese! In fact, I'm feeling pretty healthy.

That was a really nice list.
Practicing maintenance is important because it is a game changer when the goal isn't about the scale number getting lower. A year into maintenance I still struggle with wanting to see the scale drop, but it's not about that aspect of the journey anymore. Fitness and getting tighter from exercise yes, but dropping pounds- not right now anyway.

Chris, I just noticed that you and I started JUDDDing about the same time, in fact I started a month before you did, and I have lost only 41 lbs vs your 62.3 lbs. So You started Cal Cycling in May'12, I stated LC in March'12 - so overall if you look at this You have lost much better (73 lbs vs mine 64).

So, yes indeed, let's reflect where we've come from and I bet we are fitter today than we were in 2012 when we started.

JD, that is so sweet of you to say, and I think we should both feel great about how far we've come! I had the (dis)advantage of starting out 50 pounds heavier, and it's going to come off faster at first, so it's not a fair comparison (we're all so unique anyway). I'd love to be where you are!

I was not cribbing about my loss but really trying to high light your achievements! And, you will be there my friend, very soon!, mark my words!I remember when i started thinking, I'll be over the moon if I get down to mid 60s, now I'll be happy when the 50s are behind me, so one step at a time! Let's hang in there together supporting each others as we always do!

Speaking of the scale not moving, I was the exact same weight today as yesterday after a very good DD. That is the first time it's ever happened to me, although I've seen others say that.

Chris, Carol and JD--All of you are prime examples of successful weight loss and healthy living.

That happened to me. I said to myself: "Just wait for it, I KNOW a loss will show up."
So, I say to you: "I get it, you are doing great, you look beautiful and The Loss Will Show Up."

This is a very encouraging thread to me. And what strikes me as I read it is how proud I am of everyone here. Talk about a determined and focused group! And all the wonderful and supportive things we say to each other, we need to turn back on ourselves too! Thank you all for your sweet comments and cheers.

We are doing this!

i haven't lost any weight for a few weeks but found my already-small-waist went in 2"(bummer!) and my ample hips went in 1".

i no longer put such stock in that stupid scale. tempted to start weighing once a week, but don't know if i can resist.

Wow! Great NSV! If that's not proof that you don't need the scale to gauge progress, nothing is! Congratulations!!!

Great article! That scale is an evil creature and there are weeks that go by that the number doesn't change. How is that even possible? As long as we keep acknowledging those NSV's we'll all beat that pesky scale.

I've had that happen EVERY time! 3 solid weeks on strict JUDDD and no loss yet. But I (somehow) am still hopeful! Reading about all your successes on here makes me think it's possible.
