Hummus

Does anyone incorporate hummus into their LC plan? I have some that states 4 carbs & 2 fiber, so it seems like an ok choice. If you do eat it, what do you eat it with?

I love hummus, but portion control can be a problem.

The 4 carbs - is that for 1 or 2 tablespoons?

I'm still in my early stages - I'd probably defer it to later on, but it's a great condiment.

Serving size is two tablespoons. I find it really hard to control portions when eating it with crackers/pita chips, but without those I feel like two tablespoons is enough. I think I put one tablespoon per chip when eating it with pita chips!

If your can control the portion I don't see why you couldn't incorporate it into your diet. Measuring it out into a small bowl works for me. When it's gone, that's it. Cucumbers or celery would be good. Or, Quiziods tortilla recipe turned into crackers. Hmm... Might need to do that!

I love hummus but the serving size is way too small for me so I don't eat it often (plus, my favorite hummus dipper is pretzels...). Hummus is great for salad dressings though, I put a tablespoon or so into my oil/vinegar/spice concoction when I want a middle eastern flavor.

Oh yes, forgot to say - you can make sprouted hummus, which decreases the carbs. There are sites that explain it better than I can. I do know I was on a raw hummus bout for a while - it tastes fine and the carb count is lower. Sorry I didn't mention sprouting earlier.

How much carb is there in Raw Hummus with sprouted Chickpeas?
Why Sprout?

I like to use carrots, green peppers or cauliflower to dip into hummus.

I wish I could eat hummus. I love it and I make a really great one. Unfortunately, legumes are not on my food list. I cannot exercise portion control at all with hummus and I feel legumes have no place in my diet.

I tried sprouting and culturing hummus to see if it would be better then, but no go: cravings are there and my ketosis disappears...

My family is Israeli, so hummus is on the table nearly every day. The hummus i eat is homemade and a bit runnier than store bought, i think it stretches better that way. Dip grilled meat into it or veggies. Yum!

I made it last weekend, for the first time in the 2 years since I've been low carb. I have missed it but couldn't see making a batch and not be able to eat it all!

I made it a cross between hummus and guacamole, with equal portions of chick peas and avocado, and more olive oil than I ever used before. The ingredients are similar enough. I left out the hot peppers and got to have both. I froze half of it. Thanks for reminding me, I just took it out of the freezer for tomorrow!

That looks like a smart idea. Was wondering about doing a half and half with some almonds or Mac nuts. Add a bit of pesto, or maybe some artichoke hearts. Break out the celery people
