A Question About Ketosis

Do you have to be in Ketosis to lose weight with LC?

I only lose weight when I am in ketosis. By day 3 when glycogen stores are used up and ketosis hits, the scale starts dropping like mad for me!!!

no. many lose good weight on carb limits of (say) 60-80 carbs per day. usually under 50 nc does one go into ketosis is what I read, but many can 'lower' carbs into an acceptable range, keeping track of calories for the day, and still lose weight.

Ketosis is not needed to lose weight. Any controlled calorie, low fat diet can show ya that

So even if eating lower carb, one does not need ketosis to lose. but the state of ketosis gives alot of benefits to many.

No, there are several low carb diets where the goal doesn't include ketosis, and people can lose weight on them. The South Beach Diet, The Zone, and the Carbohydrate Addict's Diet are a few examples.

The thing about choosing a non-ketogenic LC plan is that you have to be more careful with calories as well as carbs. When you're in ketosis, you get a slight caloric advantage, but also, the higher your carbs, the more you need to limit fat intake.
