Thanksgiving Menus

Next Thursday is offically my DD (LC day with carb cycling) but I'm going to relax about it. Eat but not stuff.

I thought it would be fun to share menus. I like seeing what others make - in my family along with most of the common dishes we also have lasagna. So much food.. but that's ok, we'll have a bunch of great leftovers. So far my menu looks like this:
-------------------
Turkey
Sausage - sweet potato stuffing
Caprese salad
Stuffed mushrooms
Baked three cheese spinach casserole
Canberry orange relish
Lasagna
Pumpkin pie
LC Almond Chocolate Torte
Dotties Pumpkin Bread ( first time making it, excited, it sounds delicious)
And I want to try a Paleo recipe for Chocolate Truffles.
Spiced cider
Pinot Noir

Next!

LOL Dawn!

I've cooked Thanksgiving dinner for most of the 43 years I've been married - sharing it with family - this year 13 total. I've tried new recipes some years - but the family loves that the menu stays the same! Now that some of my nieces are older, they each bring a dish to share. I only have to make the turkey, stuffings, potatoes, pumpkin pie and chocolate pudding pie.

Turkey with giblet gravy
cornbread stuffing
traditional bread stuffing
cranberry sauce
mashed potatoes with turnips
green bean casserole - DD brings
corn pudding - DD brings
mushroom casserole - my niece's special recipe
pumpkin pie
apple pie - my older brother makes the flakiest crust!
chocolate pudding pie
assortment of wines

and about 2 hours later- a family tradition - rye bread with butter! From the same bakery my whole life, which my older brother brings from my hometown.

My son eats plain so we have turkey, baked sweet potatoes, fresh cranberry relish and cornbread dressing (for DH and me), carrots and broccoli and plain cornbread for DS. Traditions change so I cater to only child. But it is a lot easier than trying to make a bunch of fancy stuff. He will eat a little turkey and most all of the cornbread along with his carrots and broccoli. No dessert for him either. I usually make a pecan or pumpkin pie for us.

I enjoy cooking the traditional Thanksgiving dinner... But 3 years ago, when I had surgery a week before Thanksgiving, my family tried the Bob Evans Farmhouse Feast. And it was a hit! Now, I'll do the big dinner myself for Christmas... But Thanksgiving will be a relaxing heat & serve!

Turkey
Stuffing
Mashed Potatoes & Gravy
Green Beans
Corn
Banana Bread
Pumpkin Pie
Coconut Cream Pie
Blackberry Merlot

My family have all decided to have their own Thanksgivings with their own extended families (children, grandchildren), instead of getting together with brothers and sisters (and our mother). So I decided that we (bf and I) would take my mother to a restaurant on Thanksgiving. I haven't decided exactly where, and it will be tricky because she is in a wheelchair and I haven't tried to take her outside of the nursing home in a long time. I hope it goes well.

Everyone's plans sound wonderful!

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and I love all the cooking that goes with it. We have basically the same thing every year, sometimes adding a new dish, and keeping it if we like it.

This year's menu is:
Turkey, gravy, stuffing, cranberries
Mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes with marshmallow
Pineapple dinner rolls
Corn casserole
Brussel sprouts with bacon
Peas and pearl Onions
Dilled carrots
Ham
Creamed spinach

For dessert, PIE with cream, ice cream, or col whip

What kind of PIE, you ask? Well, we have our Holiday Open House the day after Thanksgiving, and we serve pie, so there is quite a selection. On Thanksgiving we usually opt for pumpkin and/or apple, but this is the full offering this year, for your reading enjoyment:

Apple Crumb
Apple and Cranberry
Apple in Spicy Cheddar Crust
Black-and-Blue
Strawberry rhubarb
Boysenberry
Pecan
Maple Walnut
Blueberry Ricotta
Zucchini Pie
Pumpkin
Rhubarb Custard
Ohio Shaker lemon
Lemon Meringue
Jefferson Davis
Chocolate French Silk
Three-Cherry
Toasted Almond, Coconut, and Chocolate
Peach Sour Cream
Mincemeat
Salted Peach Caramel

I think that's it. Sometimes we add a couple of last-minute ones.

Dawn, sounds like a very good idea! Cindy, I hope your mom has a lovely outing and you can find a good restaurant.

Mine is very traditional, all homemade, and the same each year. But I love it!

Turkey
Sage bread dressing
Mashed potatoes and giblet gravy
Mashed sweet potatoes with lots of butter, cinnamon, brown sugar, and melted marshmallows
Cranberry sauce - the real thing
Cole slaw
Black olives
Champagne
Pumpkin pie with sweetened whipped cream

Then next day, one of my all time favorite leftovers - turkey pot pie!

I loveeeeeee homemade cranberry sauce. The stuff in the can makes me GAG!!!

We are going out to a lovely Inn for a Thanskgiving Buffet. I can't even begin to list the offerings they have but there are so many side dishes I might not have room for turkey! Must have the caramel apple bread pudding though!

I wish I had complete control of the menu, but alas, I do not.
I'm making pumkin pie, oreo dirt cake, and sweet potato casserole.

Other things on the menus are; mashed potatoes, green beans, mac and cheese, turkey, ham, and apple pie.

I hope someone makes a Pecan Pie!

Well, I went to the same restaurant last year so there are some things I did not try. I will have those first. Honestly, I'm not sure I will have room for the turkey LOL I'm starting off with the butternut squash soup which is to die for! I am planning on just BP coffee in the morning then nothing until dinner at 4:30. If the weather cooperates I will be taking a few walks throughout the day to work some of that stuff off.
