I told my doctor about JUDDD..

So I met with my new doctor to have some blood tests done, I've been having some elevated blood sugar lately, I usually check due to low blood sugar, so imagine my surprise when I woke up the other morning and saw 118! I'm usually 84. My results came back ok; fasting glucose 111 and A1C is 5.2. I dunno, the 111 bothers me but she says it's ok.

We got to talking about exercise and diet and I mentioned JUDDD and how I alternate my calories. At first her eyes got wide and she just stared at me -- so I braced myself for the worst... But she loved it and said she has a few patients who may also like to know about it!!

The only bit we didn't totally agree on is she'd like to see me eating more of a vegetarian diet (she's vegan), and she also said that it helps to stop eating after 3 p.m. and I'll have better weight loss results. Maybe on the weekend but that's nearly impossible during the week.

Anyhoo... I'm super happy that she didn't try to discourage me in any way!

That's wonderful, Kris!! I had much the same reaction when I last visited my doctor. She said *intermittant* fasting was fine. At first I said fasting, then IF, and she relaxed. I'm glad you have a doctor who understands!

I almost never eat before 3pm. That would never work for me.
I never say fasting or IF to doctors. I say I eat 300 calories one day and the next day 1500. I said 1900 when I started at 190. None of my doctors argue about it at this point and are kind of glad that I can maintain with only 2 DDs per week.

I think all my doctors were skeptical in the beginning, but the results speak for themselves and the fact that my diabetes has been reversed makes them (and me) very pleased. I don't miss injecting myself twice a day. Hope I never need to do that again.

Glad that you brought up the subject of Dr's.

I still have not told my internist about the JUDDD plan.
She knows about the LC.....

I'm so glad to hear that! I love to hear about docs that are open to "alternative" ideas. The vegan/vegetarian diet would never work for me, nor would the not eating after 3pm! We each have to find our own way and what works for us, and you have!

That's great that your doctor is in agreement with JUDDD. NOT eating after 3 pm - did she give you any reasons for that? Everyone is different so by now we all know that ONE suggestion does not fit all!! I would guess it's the idea that you are most active morning and afternoon and so would burn the most calories? JUDDD doesn't seem to mind when we eat - as proved by many JUDDD BUDDDs!

I think good 'camoflauge' for telling a doctor who needs to know, but you fear may not be receptive, is to call it 'calorie-cycling', lower one day, higher the next, but averaging out.

Of course,, we should be 'brave' enough to just lay it out there, after all, doctors are our advisers, not our dictators...but real life here...sometimes you don't want to deal with it!

Tina- just realized that coming after your comment, mine might sound a little snarky! I didn't mean it that way, or directed at you, just a general comment and how I would go about it if facing an intimidating doctor. Please forgive any clumsiness.

Yes, my health and well being has really been transformed by JUDDD. I go into it more in my Before and After Journal. (Link in signature).

I have never held back with my doctors, and I've seen several over the last couple of years for various reasons. I wonder if it's more about "how" we share, than "what" we share. I've had nothing but positive responses from all my doctors (GP, Endo, Rheumatologist, Chiro, various urgent care doctors, etc.). I can't imagine they are all just that naturally supportive. I'm proud of my plan, proud of my accomplishments, and maybe that shows through and they just support me because I've done so well.

I love hearing that there are other doctors who support our WOE, but it makes me sad that there are those who don't or that some of us are afraid to tell our health care providers.

That is awesome y'all!

I told my oncologist that I JUDDD and explained it. He's 100% on board with it and told me just to be sure I switch up how many cals I eat each day to keep my body on its toes.

I also confessed to doing JUDDD during chemo/radiation and coming into chemo fasted and he just listened and did not comment. I got through it without huge issues (little bladder infections, some lung stuff, and hand/foot syndrome), but you should see how many have to go into hospital for infections from it.

There is actually some preliminary research indicating that fasting before/during chemo therapy both improves its efficacy, and lessens the side-effects!

Yes, Sirt. When I was dx'd I found those studies and after doing a TON of research about cancer and diet, concluded it was worth a try. I had a really dire situation and my tumor was very aggressive. I'm happy to report that my n=1 experience, pretty much coincides with the prelim findings!!

Carly, that's fabulous that you went from 2 insulin injections/day to diet controlled. I'm a nurse at a free clinic, with many diabetic patients. I'm looking forward to passing on this info to them. This is a WOE that many people can do.

Yes- it has been life changing for me. My A1c dropped from 9.8 to 5.6 when last checked 5 mos ago. I go for a re-check soon. No needles, no meds (for diabetes that is...)

She said something about our circadian rythms and by not eating past 3:00 by breakfast the metabolism will be stoaked. It's the first I've heard about it. She did say that if I couldn't take it that having a small dressing-less salad or a piece of fruit is okay.

I haven't attempted this..but if the darn scale doesn't move soon I may be tempted!
