Dh and I jumped on the JUDDD band wagon today

After letting him eat a HUGE burrito, chips, and salsa last night, I talked him into starting today. I knew it wouldn't be too hard to talk him into it after a meal like that, he is always "stuffed" the next day. I had already started on Thursday. Today we started with a down day. No complaining thus far. I just spent an hour typing up a down day list of things to eat and their calorie counts so he could stick with when I'm at work or sleeping.
My problem is when I go to work. I work 2-3 12 hours shifts a week-nights so that means 7pm to 7 am. It gets confusing as to when I can eat "normally" and when to eat "light". Does anyone have this issue? Does anyone have any words of wisdom for keeping DH on the straight and narrow. I think I have him fully committed for at least two weeks.
I tried this before, but like any thing else lately, I gave up.

JoLi, to you and DH! Good job getting started. Your work schedule does present some unique challenges that I've not faced, so I can't be much help there. But I have seen people asking about that in the past, so I'm sure someone will chime in on that. Good luck to you both!

JoLi....my DH and I are also just starting. We have a thanksgiving family dinner tomorrow (I'm in Canada), so Tuesday will be our first DD. I'm down 18 lbs in 6 weeks on Wendy Chant's Conquer the Fat Loss Code, but I'm bored of the food choices and want to try something else. He really needs to lose 100 lbs, so trying to find something that he can stick to for a long haul has been challenging. And I have no advice for keeping them on track...I've been through this before too; he is much more likely to stray then I am.
Are you willing to share your list? I was going to do exactly the same thing for him!

JoLi and Goalie Mom. I have no concrete way to keep a spouse JUDDDing, G_d knows my DW is not JUDDDing more than she is. With that being said, lead by example, seeing this plan work and transform your body will speak volumes.

I can't really speak to the 12 hour shifts 3x per week. A DD lasts about 36 hours. Traditionally one would finish UD dinner at 7pm on Monday. DD all day Tuesday and at about 7am on Wednesday wake up and eat. You can reverse this on nights you work.

Welcome to JUDDD BOTH of you ! I started with my DH in April of 2012. JUDDD worked amazingly well for him. He lost 40 pounds in less than 3 month. He also never really did a horribly low DD and often didn't watch his calories at all on UD's! I think , as most WOE, it just works easier for MEN! The good thing is the fast results are great for motivating them to stick with it and stay focused.

As for working a 12 hour shift, do you have the ability to pack your food? Bring it? Keep it cold? Warm things up? DH and I work together as well. We RARELY eat out so we bring in everything we have during a work day. I don't work 12 hour shifts, but I often work 7-5. I think as with most WOE, PLANNING is the key! When I fail to plan, I PLAN to FAIL! We try to plan out our evening UD meals on the weekend and use salads or veggies/protein for DD evening meals. My DS14 follows JUDDD loosesly as well (he is down 40 pounds) my DD12 doesn't follow, but she knows on DD evenings, she has to plan her meal. Frozen meals are a good option for DD's if you like that sort of thing. My DS14 loves the budget lean gourmet meals. The salsbury steak one he RAVES about and it is only 180c, so sometimes, even on a DD, he can eat 2 of them!

I know that in the past some JUDDD buds have done shift work. It is more of a challenge but as usual you have had great advice already. Plan, plan, plan.

I work in a hospital so yes I have access to a Fridge, microwave etc. I also have access to a labor and delivery unit that loves to order out! I have tried to stay away from that and payday Friday ice cream. I know planning is the key. I just need to get the timing of my dd and ud down.
My poor dh. He did not remember the options I told him he could have for lunch when I went out to shop. Got home a few minutes ago and he had not eaten anything! I told him that he could have whatever he wanted for lunch on an UD and I would fix dinner for us.. I guess I'll push back dinner time tonight.

I am really happy to see both of you onboard with your spouses! I would love it if my DH would join me in JUDDD. He's seeing big changes for me, and I hope that in time it may motivate him to give it a go. He might do better trying 5:2 so it may be a while, when I start maintenance, before he'll test the water.

first DD...not too bad. stuck to about 450 cals and dh about 650. I think he was a little hungry though....called me on the drive home....wanted to know how many calories in a steering wheel!!

That is hilarious! DH and I have had numerous discussions like that. Me at work....I wonder how much the desk would cost me calorie-wise! Nibble on my fingers a bit too!

3 Weeks and loving it!

I love JUDDD, and so does the DH! He's down 15 lbs in 3 weeks (ugh, men!), but more significantly his blood sugars have been amazing. He is Type 2 Diabetic on insulin, and on DD's he is not taking any insulin or meds during the day, just his morning and bedtime insulin, and getting fabulous readings. I'm into the 150's again (just barely) for the first time in 2 years.

Have spent the past few days looking at all the links in the benefits thread:

Also been reading info on Krista Varady's FB page for her new book:

and am looking forward to getting my copy in December. (just an aside...turns out she's from my town...go Guelph!)

We are both especially interested in some of the research happening on IF and alzeimers as his dad has it (in a nursing home), and my DH's health has been a mirror of his dad's most of his life (athletic as a teenager, then overweight, diabetes, etc.). He is really hoping that JUDDD will not only help him lose weight, but prevent or delay any cognitive deteriation in his senior years (which are creeping up fast).

Today is an UD and we're celebrating BIL's birthday at a chinese buffet! Can't wait! Might end up being an UUAD!

Yep, this is one of the reasons that I continue to do EOD rotations in maintenance. Alzheimer's runs in my family as well and I would love to AT LEAST postpone the onset, although I certainly hope I can escape it altogether. GOOD FOR YOU GUYS!!!!!!!!! enjoy your UD!

That is great Johanna! I'm so happy you're both getting these great results and enjoying better health. I never ever want to totally go off ADF, because I always want to have a fair amount of my SIRT friends running around protecting me.

Fantastic!

Alzheimer's runs in my family as well, and I am very interested in the AFD research in that area. I'm reading a book called The Blue Zones in which centenarians are interviewed wrt their lifestyle/diet, etc. One thing many seem to have in common is lower calorie intake throughout their lives. Many of them spent long periods of time going hungry out of necessity. Very interesting.
