Low Carb Cycling

Input Please!! I have been doing Low Carb for a month now and I was doing some reading on Low Carb Cycling. Where you mostly do low carb all week but then have higher carb days on 2 days. Has anyone tried this and had success with it??? Would appreciate any info on it Thank You!

Jimmy Moore (ask the low carb experts) had 2 experts on the subject last week (pod cast). They had some good information that you may want to listen to.

it is a game you play to find out your carb tolerance.

are you the type that can eat 'whatever' on the weekend and get right back on plan immediately Mon-Fri? if not you are playing with fire. If you are the type that can do it, sure it works.
Many tho try and then fight the carb demons for more and more days after and who knows where it can proceed from there??

You have to know you and your personality. it is so personal on what people can handle.

I have always eaten carbs on Saturday nights. Still always lost weight. But get used to a jump up on the scale after doing it. Then it gradually goes back down (and then some) over the following week.

It never worked for me. I tried doing this, and always ended up overdoing it and ruining any progress I made during the week. I would end up eating way too many carbs or making excuses why one more day wouldn't hurt, and one day would turn into three. I've been three months now with no carb binges, and the weight is finally coming off, slowly, but it's coming off. But you may be different. I am a type two diabetic, and carbs are my enemy. I just need to stay away from them.

I do not and would not. For me, being keto-adapted (which takes several weeks of constant ketosis) is important, for health and fat burning, so I don't intentionally go out of ketosis very often.

I've given myself permission to eat one off plan meal twice or thrice per year, but I have to think hard about doing it, and so far since my January restart, nothing has been worth not being keto-adapted, so I haven't eaten off plan once.

I don't have trouble eating an off-plan meal and getting back on plan, but I just generally don't find it worth it.

It works for other people, so whichever way you go, good luck.

Every time I fall out of ketosis, it costs me a month of progress. After several months, I hit a stall, and tried a controlled carb reset, hoping it would kickstart a new loss cycle.

This did not happen for me, and it set up a chain reaction of continued failures.

I'm not saying that this absolutely won't work for you, merely sharing my own experience: For my metabolism, carb cycling is a fancy word for 'an attempt to rationalize cheating'.

My bff had what she called 'cheat meals' either Fri or Sat night every week. Usually it was a burger on bun with fries and ketchup, and a couple of bourbons with diet pepsi. She lost over 80 lbs in a year and still maintains. For me, if I eat off plan, I stall out for a week or more and I feel a little wonky the next day. Just goes to show that we're all different.
