Shakey jittery and weird

I don't remember feeling like this during induction/ketosis before but,,,

I checked this morning with keto stick and am in ketosis so I know for sure it's got something to do with that. But very shakey and jittery today.

May have to cut back on the coffee while in induction? Or is that very normal?

Thanks

I felt a bit wonky/weird but not nervous or jittery.
Wouldn't hurt to cut back on the caffeine.
How much coffee do you typically drink in a day?

Try drinking some broth, that sometimes helps with the crappy feelings in the beginning.

If you are drinking a lot of coffee (like more than 3 cups) it could be that you are just more sensitve too it and it might help to cut it down a little bit.

About 3 big mugs.. Sweet n low and a splash of hwc. Nothing different other than I don't follow that with a carby breakfast any more.

When I low carbed before I don't think I ever got this deep into ketosis is why I'm asking.

Yeah, it could be just a combination of "induction flu" and the coffee, maybe try just drinking 2 tomorrow and see if it helps.

Seriously, try the broth. Just get a can of chick broth or beef broth, which ever you like better, pour some in a mug and heat it up in the microwave. Drink it and I bet you it will help you feel a little bit better.

And just realize, the 1st 3-5 days stinks as you de-carb.

Hang in there.

Thanks, ill be trying that in the morning. And cutting back on the coffee a because as I sat here thinking about it all. I also had half a diet coke and 2 glasses of unsweetened tea at lunch. So maybe lack of breads pastas and fillers is making what is "normal" for me in the way of caffeine show itself differently on LC

Answer is obviously less caffeine and more water.

You should really try the chicken broth in order to replace the electrolytes you may be losing as a normal result of ketosis.

Broth and my magic Induction flu weapon -- half an avocado dressed with a combo of 1 T mayo and a dash of soy sauce. It's crazy-healing.

That would be my guess. Caffeine tends to cause blood sugar crashes in people sensitive to swings in BG. Carbs help offset that tendency.

I had the same feeling every time I tried low carb before this. I have three suggestions. I did them all together, so I don't know which one worked, unfortunately.

1: give up all wheat or grain products

2: go higher carb for a while, getting your carbs from vegetables. (Atkins suggested this-and I have a feeling it the main strategy that worked.)

3: eat up to six smaller meals a day instead of three large ones. The "jittery" feeling is likely low blood sugar.

I hope it goes away soon-oh, and be sure to take vitamins. At least a good multi and vitamin C.

I am one who can't really do the whole bulletprooof coffee thing in the morning, no food. I notice that I feel... not well. Maybe switch to a decaf coffee. I did and it made a world of difference. Now I can do half caff and I'm pretty good.

Another vote for broth!!!

Low carb is diuretic, so you will lose more water than on a high carb diet. You need to make sure you consume mineral rich foods. Broth is one such magic food. Make sure you get a broth without all sorts of unidentifyable ingredients. Better yet, make some yourself. It freezes well, and you can thaw what you need when you need it.

Also, take a magnesium supplement and like Olive suggested, eat avocados if you like them. They have tons of good fat, and potassium, which will also help make you feel less jittery.
Sprinkling some unrefined sea salt (I like celtic sea salt) on your food should also help a lot.

That totally revved up feeling is just deep ketosis. It's the equivalent of a sugar high. If you add some carbs, lower your fats, drink more water, whatever lowers your ketones, you'll calm down.

I get the same feeling during the day and it translates into insomnia or restless sleep at night. Sometimes it's an anxious/wired feeling, sometimes just feeling 'off' or wonky like someone else mentioned. I notice that caffeine does make the feeling worse so I've tried to lay off the coffee. And it always happens when I'm in deep ketosis but I often have a good loss after feeling that way.

I echo the suggestion of salt and trace minerals. Salt half an avocado, eat your olives, drink 1-2 mugs of good, normal sodium broth, and liberally salt your food. Magnesium tablets are also extremely helpful. Some of the jitters are ketosis and caffeine, but electrolytes will help immensely with your overall condition.

DITCH the coffee, or at least go 1/2 caff kind, or.....decaff totally, , that is if you can stand it!!

SAME thing happened to me by the way, meaning, any time i go really low carb, or go long periods of time without eating, plus having drank 2-3 mugs of strong coffee that morning..

I now do 1/2 caff and force myself to eat in the mornings, even if i don't feel like it. Sure helps!!

I don't know that this is true-I have experienced it at higher carb levels than I'm currently eating, but I'm not experiencing it now. I think might be low. Loos sugar brought on by too much caffeine. I don't really know- but I would not describe it as normal for ketosis.

I agree with above poster!!, matter of fact I was never in deep Ketosis, all through my weight loss journey, and yet, I've experienced this.

Also too much caffeine can heighten feelings of anxiety. Many people don't know this..
