Success Lowering bg with Diet?

I just want to know how much success people have had controlling their diabetes with diet alone. My boyfriend has t2 diabetes and after two months on a low carb diet has got his blood sugar down to between 6.8 to 8.6 before and after food and thats without his metformin.

I would also like to know if it will continue to improve as volek's book seemed to suggest that it may do as insulin sensitivity increases? Also how are those readings in the grand scheme of things, is it a safe level or should he resume his meds ?
In contrast my bloods as a non diabetic is between 3.6 to 4.8 consistently on a low carb diet.

Just for the record his bloods were sky high when first tested 13 fasting and 26 non fasting so its a vast improvement either way.

just depends where he is in the process of pancreas failure and insulin resistance. i can't get anywhere near controlling mine that way, but many do. probably best to keep taking the metformin in any case. it's a good drug.

Varies with the person. I've been a diabetic for about 9 years and on insulin daily and at meals. Within 3 weeks of going low carb per Dr. Bernstein's "Diabetes Solution", my BG levels went from over 400 to around 120 and then continued to drop from there. Now they're normally 90-95 without meds.
