Do I stop meds for a few days B4 bloodwork?

I thought I had read that it's better to skip meds for about 3 days prior to bloodwork. Is that true?

Is there a sticky somewhere about this?

I don't think so!!!

the thing is, your numbers will vary depending on when you take your meds. the doctor should know when you took them, and ideally would have instructions for you. not all doctors have the same idea here...

they want to know how you are doing WITH your meds. stopping them would be counterproductive. if it were me, I would gain 10 lb in three days if I stopped them too!
Often I don't come back to read threads where I've posted. If you want me to see something, please send me a private message. Thanks!

If you're only on T4 it doesn't matter when you've taken them. If you take T3 also, then it could matter. I take both and try to get labs done 5 hours after my morning dose.

I guess the point is, if you take T3 along with T4, if you take them, then an hour later get labs done, your FT3 will show high in the results and (probably) freak out your doctor.

Call your doctor's office and ask. But, if it's only levothyroxine (T4) than you 'could' take it day of, as T4 hormone wouldn't really show up for four to six weeks. If you take Armour, or you take a combo of T4/synthetic/Cytomel than call your doc and ask...some do NOT want you to take the Cytomel, some do and then test after a specific period of time.
