restaurant/eating dinner out help!

I learned in the past how to eat dinner out and be Atkins-compliant, and that ended up being easy really, but cannot figure out how to do HFLC when I leave the house.

I'm great when cooking at home, and for lunch I can do a salad with extra dressing... but my dinners out consistently aren't working, too high in protein. I end up eating out 2-3 times a week so it is an ongoing problem.

Any specific ideas? What do you order when you go out for dinner? I'm in this for the long haul (managing prediabetes) so this is one of those life skill things I need.

I have come to see eating out as one of those things you need to do to be part of society and not an eating experience. I order something to eat, but I am not looking for it to be a big part of my daily intake, more like a snack. It makes for expensive snacks, but I stay on track.

I try to order some meat and a salad and/or veggies. I might not eat all the meat and have extra dressing on the salad.
Alfredo sauce and the meat without the pasta.
Breakfast if possible.
Chef salad
Dinner salad and veggies

I find myself ordering off the "sides" menu sometimes.

I agree, it's an expensive snack, but worth it in the long run. I treat it the same way, and sometimes it makes me crazy to know I'm paying so much for the little bit I'm going to eat, but there's no way around it.

I usually just order a cheeseburger with no bun and eat only that, no fries or sides. Or I get a ribeye and a salad with blue cheese dressing. I always eat the fattiest part of the steak, and bring the rest home to my dogs. LOL

My favorite thing if I can get it is a cobb salad. I eat the egg, bacon, avocado, cheese and a bit of the greens. All fits!

When we eat out which is not too often we have a small portion of chicken, fish, or meat. We add some vegetables or a small salad to that. If you order salmon, usually it is a small portion. You can order a hamburger patty with salad. If your protein portion is too large, cut it in half and save it for the next day.
