Scales!!

i went to my local thrift shop and they had just gotten a shipment of brand new never opened "professional" scales, the kind you can program for trends, 2 different users, etc. Since I don't own a scale I thought I might get one. Well, I tried one after almost 2.5 weeks of low carb, strict induction, in deep ketosis for 2 weeks. I had resisted the temptation to weigh myself as I don't like my mood depending on whether the scale says something good or not. Well, according to that scale, I had gained 6 pounds since I started. Needless to say, I didn't buy it. I'm still resisting the urge to weigh, as I feel good and look better, and will stick to low carb better if I don't know for sure. I'd sure like to be able to adjust my weight loss ticker, though. it looks like I'm not making any progress at all!

That scale probably weighed higher than your current scale, so that you would have had a higher starting point as well. If you had bought it and weighed with side by side against your current scale, you'd see. Lots of people have reported that their weight has shown differently by up to several pounds when they changed scales.

Really, as long as you're feeling good and know you're shrinking, the actual official number is irrelevant.

LOL, my scale is psycho. It will change numbers when I move it to a different area in the bathroom. Also, my feet placement makes a difference. To top it off, my MD's scale weighs 7 more pounds then mine. I just have learned to go by my scales only. I weigh the same time of day wearing the same type of clothing and the scale stays in the same spot in the bathroom. For me, it is the trend not the numbers. It can be frustrating.

This new scale is probably more accurate and your starting weight must have been higher. You still lost the same amount of weight so you are making progress, it's just that your starting point is different.

Pick one scale and stick with it. Keep it in the same place on the floor and weigh at the same time each day and keep in mind that small fluctuations are normal.

Anyone ever seen those "negative scales" Basically you weight yourself when you decide to start, and that calibrates the scale to a zero. Then as you lose weight, it will show -2 lbs... -5 lbs... -10 lbs... It never shows your actual weight, just the difference in your weight from when you start it!

If your thrift store got a brand new shipment of unopened scales must be that the manufacturer couldn't sell them due to weight inaccuracies - stick to your scale!

I don't have a scale, but if I did, the "negative" ones sound great. that way I could track the trend without worrying about the numbers. i'm going to look into that if I ever do decide to buy a scale.

I don't own a scale. I'm resisting the urge to buy one since I get obsessed and stand on the scale every time I go into the bathroom. It's better for me to just eat healthy and exersize and weigh myself once a month at my mom's house. I weighed myself yesterday and was bummed because it wasn't the weight I wanted it to be. So I'm going to stay off the scales for another month. I'm thinking once I get to my goal, I will buy a scale just to make sure my weight doesn't creep up.

I googled it and found out it's called the Quantum Scale.
