Was wondering... how important is it to get organic with the Paleo diet?

How important is it to have organic veggies and fruit.... since you eat so much more on a paleo way of eating. Lets face it.... if you are picking up a salad or veggies when you are out.... they may only be slightly washed and usually not organic.

Mark's Daily Apple had a link about this a while ago.

I can't remember the specifics, but I think he said if you can't afford it, don't stress it. But if you can, if you are eating a lot of something, that should be a clue to go organic on that item.

There are these lists of the top dirty foods you should buy organic, and I have found them to be conflicting. Some lists tell you don't bother with organic bananas, it doesn't matter once you peel them.

I have looked at organic potatoes. They are all growing eyes and look a little green. That could be more poisonous than the commercial ones, but I don't know. Solanine (or something like that) in green potatoes or potatoes with eyes is toxic too. I guess you just have to use your best judgment.

I think organic/local foods are a good idea for any diet. If I could afford the time and money to eat 100% organic/local produce and 100% organic/pastured/local/sustainable meats and seafood I would love to but it isn't completely practical for me right now. I do buy plenty of things organic/local/sustainable/pastured and have spent a long time over several years researching my choices. Ultimately everyone has to do this for themselves as its a cost-benefit analysis regarding your time, your money, and your health.
