Post Thyroidectomy - Went Low Carb - Lost Weight!

Hi !

I am new to the site, I've been mostly hanging around r/keto and am so excited to not only find an active low carb forum but one with a specific thyroid sub forum!!

Still figuring this site out but wanted to say hiii and give a shout out to all my thyroid-missing or thyroid-disabled brethren that are living the low carb life.

I had my thyroidectomy in late 2011 due to thyroid cancer, and did a triathlon a year later (but gained five pounds regardless of all the damn working out). A friend told me about keto and boom! I lost 20 lbs in like, 2.5 months. Crazy! Even without a thyroid AND going hypothyroid (due to a medication change).

Meds finally evened out, and stayin' strong. Still have the occasional craving x.x

Any other thycan homies out here? =)

I had TT with radical neck dissection Dec 2010 for metastatic papillary carcinoma. Went under thinking it was just the right side of the thyroid, woke up to a dramatic change in lifestyle.
Been struggling since the surgery, I only gained 10 lbs I was lucky, finding the right way to eat for me was tricky.
Like you, no amount of exercise seemed to budge things.
I have found I have had to up my fat way more that ever before to see any kind of loss.
Glad your meds are evened out.
I am still kept as suppression dosages which at this point is getting to be the new normal and most days doesnt even phase me anymore.
