sneaky little carbs....

So I lose 13 lbs week one, then 2 lbs week 2, then nothing week 3... I was concerned but not freaking out. Downloaded an app to count my carbs and keep a food journal. I put in my food today which was 2 scrambled eggs 3 sausage links, two pork chops, 1 cup raw cherry tomatos, 2 cups raw yellow bell pepper, mini pepperoni and cheese snack. My carbs were at 42 according to my counter. What! Adkins book says I can have up to 3 cups raw veggies and both peppers and tomatoes are on the approved list... well I see where the problem is...... I thought I was at 20....

If you read the Atkins book or the Atkins site, they both say that peppers and tomatoes are on the "allowed in a limited number" list. They are higher carb, so should be treated as a garnish, not as a foundation vegetable. Three cups of those vegetables is way too much if you're in the Induction phase.

Yellow and red peppers are particularly bad. They have around twice the sugars of green. And tomatoes are a fruit, so, not surprisingly, the are higher in carbs.

Focus on green and leafy during induction, with other veggies to add flavor and texture.

Yep thats the plan. Doing salad greens and broccoli from here on out. I am glad I have the food journal. Definately helpful for newbies like me. Learning lessons the hard way...
