Dreamfields Pasta

I saw Dreamfields Pasta at Krogers today. It says it has 5 "digestible" carbs per serving (which is 2 oz).

It lists Total Carbs at 41, Fiber is 5, "Protected Carbs" are 31, for a remainder of 5.

The actual Nutrition Facts list Total Carbs as 41g, Dietary Fiber as 5g, Soluble Fiber as 3g, and Insoluable Fiber as 2g. It also lists 7g of Protein and 2 g of sugar.

WTH are "Digestible Carbs" and "Protected Carbs" and how do they get 5g of them?

That's an ongoing debate within the low carb and diabetic communities. Some people can eat one serving, prepared to the specs on the box, and not experience a rise in blood glucose levels or get kicked out of ketosis. Some people cannot, no way, no how.

It's a serious YMMV (your mileage may vary) thing.

They don't share the process, as it's proprietary.

I'm one who can eat one serving and still lose, but I'm still staying away from it for now.

I am able to do this, too, but I don't eat it very often.

A diabetes journal compared the blood sugar in five different people who ate Dreamfields to the blood sugar of the same five people when they ate regular pasta. The results were identical. The Dreamfields Pasta Fraud | DietDoctor.com

Unless you want to do some experimentation to see if you're one of the exceptions, you might stay away from it.

I'm pretty skeptical of any barcode food.
For pasta, I use squash ribbons or konjac noodles.

I eat it occasionally when I want pasta. A few times a month maybe? I don't get cravings, but last time I ate it, I woke up the next morning feeling as though my blood sugar was out of whack. I still lose when I eat it, or at least I don't gain. I recently got tofu noodles at the store, but I haven't tried them yet.

I have used Dreamfields for years. My family could not tell difference from regular. We only eat it once a month maybe, and I limit it to an ounce (dry) serving. Having said that, I do not reheat leftovers. I baked some one time in a casserole and reheated the next day and WHOA those intestines sang all day. Now I only fix what will be eaten- no leftovers.
