Thinking about joining JUDD ...Need Help

Hi I have been doing LC since Nov 7th 2012 and I have lost 16 lbs in the first 6 weeks and then BAM nothing....

I got rid of my scales and will only weigh in once a month...(not sure if this is helping) is this a good thing or bad thing?

I did measure myself a few weeks ago for the first time (wish I would have at the beginning)

People have been telling me to come over here so I am trying to read up on it but I am a "visual" type of person...so in a nutshell you do DD for one day then UP the next day, and you do this ever other day?


So I went into Dr.Johnson website and figured out my DD which is a scary 365 cals and my up day is 1823

How do I start this? UD or DD?


Could someone give me examples of what you would eat on a DD and UP?

You have the exact right idea. One DD, followed by one UD, and continue the rotation like that.

Everybody needs to find what works for their own needs, to keep them satisfied. You should check out the daily UD or DD menu threads. You'll see what a wide variety of foods we eat on BOTH days.

Hi, Cindy-Lou. Check out threads with days of the week (such as yesterday's "DD Tuesday" and "UD Tuesday") to find out examples of what lots of us are eating.

To begin, have a good up day, then follow with your first down day.

After a while, 365 won't be scary, but at first you might want to try just staying under 500 on down days until you learn what you'll want to eat on down days and when. Many people have just started with 500-calorie down days for a couple weeks. Dr. Johnson's book, The Alternate Day Diet, is a great resource, as are the stickied threads at the top of the forum. JUDDers eat a wide variety of foods-that's the beauty of the plan. There's absolutely no food group restrictions at all You can tailor it to work with what you prefer to eat (vegetarian, whole foods, lc, standard American diet etc etc).

Starting out DDs do seem overwhelming, but after you do a few rotations you'll get into the groove of things. Many of us prefer the simplicity of our DDs, over our UDs And starting out Dr. J. suggests a couple weeks of 500 calorie DDs before you go lower. And if you find yourself struggling with that you can experiment with a bit higher calories too. There's several here who do 600 calorie DDs and are steadily losing weight.

I am so having some Greek yogurt!!! its funny how I thought I would miss "treats" as in junk food but nope it's greek yogurt lol

Greek yogurt is the best! I get Dannon Oikos fat free for DDs. Only 120 calories for a whole cup and something like 22 grams of protein!

Of course, UDs you can add lots of stuff to it, or simply get full fat Greek yogurt.

One of the hardest things you will find on JUDDD is not the DD caloires even though they seam hard at first, but coming from LC you become confussed as to WHAT to eat.. and how can i eat that??? Its about caloire counting and its as simple as that! If you chose to eat the same foods.. no harm no foul,, if you chose to eat things like bread or pastas you can still make this work..!! Welcome and Come here often and ask any question you have, or just share with us how your day is goin for the most important part of JUDDD is THIS FORUM!! There is nothing out there like this.. the love and support here is really the magic part of what makes this work.. EVery one gives hugs and advise and no quesiton is ever ignored.. You become very dependant on the girls here and they are what has made my joureny a sucess~ Good luck sweetheart~

I'm one who has pretty much always done 500-600 calorie down days. I've had a few just a tad lower because I wasn't hungry that day. I've lost well with those numbers so I haven't felt the need to try to go lower.

As for your scale and weighing, it really is personal. Do what works for you. I weigh daily because if I don't I trick myself into thinking I can over eat and not gain weight. I'm used to the scale bounces you get with JUDDD but they really bother some people so they weigh less often.

I lost 10 pounds on LC from Jan1 to 3-1.. When i switched,, i lost the next 50 with just JUDDD.. Its been so easy and im thrilled i found this plan~

wow. regular low carb didn't cut it but with the rotation involved you got alot of weight gone. thanks...that is great to hear you did so well on this plan!!

It almost seems criminal that I have lost this much weight with no food restrictions!
JUDDD is just about the calories. Respect your UD/DD numbers and enjoy all the things that have been previously off limits... in moderation.

I came over from south beach and just found I couldn't imagine continuing to not eat everything my family ate day after day after day...forever! Wasn't that long ago when I was asking almost the exact same questions! Atkins just wasn't cutting it for me - when I thought about the stuff I could not have, it freaked me out. This is so sustainable! You're only dieting for ONE DAY! Then you can eat like a normal person. So the deprivation you feel, the deprivation that was ALWAYS my downfall...I can wait 24 hours for ice cream...Couldn't wait 24 months for ice cream...and here I am with JUDDD.

You really can just play with it to see what style of eating works best for you. e sure to go to Dr J's website, if you haven't already, to figure your starting calorie goals. Get a good calorie counter and a scale and you're set.

Your first DD or two might be awful. Power through it! Drink lots of fluids, especially warm fluids (I love broth and teas on my DDs) because IT WILL GET BETTER!!! Yesterday was my DD, and I did not eat until 7:30pm. And, honestly, could have skipped it all together but the fam wanted to go out so we went out. Come here and log onto the daily DD thread, share the misery we're all here for you too!!!

I met my sisters and mom there. One sister is a hard core WW girl/marathon runner, other sister was doing JUDDD but decided to stop and become a vegetarian And then my mom who is a life long yo-yo dieter/binge eater. The one sister got a hamburger, no fries (WW), my other sister got a yogurt and then my mom didn't get anything because she just got back from vacation and gained 15lbs, is scheduled for surgery next week, and is in a tizzy that the extra weight will mess that up And then there's me, ordering a Bic Mac meal, supersized
