Advice on being sick!!

Hello all. Today is supposed to be a DD but I am sick and starving already and it is only 7:30am. I am chugging water, etc. and actually have had NO hunger at all hardly on DD's the past week. However, I am thinking that maybe since I am sick, my body needs the food? I started feeling bad on DD Friday and stuck to DD calories but had a little bit of ice cream (sore throat!) that put me at about 800 calories for the day. UD yesterday was not that hungry, finished at about 1700 calories that I had to almost force myself to eat. Today is DD and I am starved! Do I make it an UD and just start tomorrow with a DD if I feel better? I didn't want to mess with my rotations because I am leaving Friday for a vacation but I don't know what to do. ETA: TOM is on his way in today or tomorrow so that isn't helping either, probably.

I think I am going to keep it a DD-MD...as much as I can. I am actually happy with maintaining until January if that is what my vacation and sickness does to me!

I'm sorry you're not feeling well. The general consensus around here seems to be, do what your body tells you to do when you're sick. I'm stubborn, so I do my best to stick to my rotations when sick, but most here eat when hungry, and do just fine that way. I'm fighting an infection right now and my DD before last, I did allow more calories because I was starving! I stuck to DD amounts, but just barely.

So sorry you're feeling sick! I wouldn't fight my body too hard. If it's telling you it wants food, there may be a reason for it. That said, if it makes you feel better to power through and stick to DD, it surely won't hurt you. I just always think why be even more miserable when you don't feel good? On the other hand, if you already feel yucky, what's a little hunger?

WOE: JUDDD/PHD, LC now that my BG is getting weird
Start Date: JUDDD 1/1/12 + LCHF 12/1/13 (controlling diabetes)
Don't go crazy and have a hot fudge sundae for breakfast. Eat small portions, drink something, then wait to see if you are still hungry (and how your tummy tolerates solid food). In my experience with the flu last spring and after surgery a few weeks ago, my body burned right through the extra calories it said it needed and I did not have to change my rotation.

JUDDD cares about calories. JUDDD does not care what you eat. Your body probably does.

I agree about listening to your body. If you are really hungry when you are sick, go for lots of filling soups and things that will nourish you. A little comfort food won't hurt either. You gotta get better so you can ease comfortably back into the strict rotations.

Last time I was sick, I had some macaroni and cheese!

I also agree with going along with what your body is telling you. I was very nauseated yesterday (DD) and just nibbled on rice cakes and jello until my stomach felt better. I'm trying not to overdo it today, and if it winds up being another DD or MD, I won't worry too much about it. I figure the UD can wait until I'm ready for it.

Thanks, everyone! I am feeling better, less hungry. I broke the night fast at about 11am with some whole grain crackers and laughing cow cheese and a clementine. That, and some coffee and some distractions later I am feeling like today can be a successful DD after all. I have a plan of throwing together some soup for dinner out of what I have in the pantry (potatoes, tomatoes, corn, onions) and just eating that with some saltines. I will be under 600 calories probably, I'm happy with that.
