I can't believe I just got this

OK, maybe all JUDDD buds knew this, but some time this week I will use a dreaded MD (3rd or 4th ever). I had to do the math to figure out what it will be with my current calories. My Mid-day numbers are 989. So I was playing with the calculator on Dr. J's wedsite at 60% maintenance DD is exactly 989. So is everyone MD numbers 60% maintenance DD? I know some of you are laughing, like Duh, where has she been, but I always did and UD + DD and divide by 2.

Holy cow! I just did mine and it worked out to exactly the 60% maintenance number too. I can't believe I never noticed that before!

When people ask about a MD we just have to say "See 60% on Dr. J's calculator." Doesn't get easier than that!

I actually found it kind of fun to play with the calculator back in the beginning (those were the days, I actually had free time).

I found a lot of patterns in the calculations (Dr J does use +-14% of RMR like he says in the book).

Actually, MD being such a high percentage gave me a glimmer of why MDs stressed me, that for my metabolism it was better to have two sensible UDs in a row when I needed to change rotations.

I was laughing because you phrased your discovery so beautifully!

I am in shock that you are just now doing a MD after JUDDDing for so long!!! I have been doing the 35% DD every single Sat/ or Sun which ever falls on DD. Love it!

Also, I hope and plan on doing 50% when I arrive at maintenance.

I've done 3 or 4 since I started, but they didn't really agree with me. Not even the weight loss aspect, just the figuring food out aspect. But the last one I did was a long time ago and I weighed a lot more so I had to figure it out with current numbers.

I guess I don't understand? It isn't but about 300 cals more? So, you didn't feel like it helped you in JUDDDing?

I have used the MD several times in the last 9 months to switch my days so that a special occasion falls on UD. I actually like doing the MD better than 2 UD. My losses have really not been any different that I can tell. Except that when I throw maintenance in for more than a couple of days, I notice a boost in loss!

I didn't know that either, Carly! I've only done two MDs - just did my most recent one Saturday to get my UD for Thanksgiving. I don't particularly like them. I feel lost in the middle somehow. Not sure why. I guess I'm wanting the nourishment after the DD. I'm learning to love DDs, which is crazy to me, but it's happening! You can all say "I told you so!" now.

going back to Carly's op-- yes, my MD is about 60% ... I noticed it on my food tracker, where I have my max cals input as my "daily allotment" and my DD is usually 20-25% of that, and then my MD come out to be 60-63% depending how well I do.

Like LCG said. I feel lost. It's 7:20pm and all I ate was an 80 calorie yogurt

I'm having a chicken ceasar salad for dinner in a bit and I guess I'll have a bed time snack, around 9:30pm, but I fast on DDs till a fixed 95 calorie snack-no planning no counting cause it's always the same. UD I just eat what feels right, but I eat. The mid-day is just confusing to me

I'm really fairly intelligent and normally alright with the "grey" areas of life, but guess I'm not there with food. I'm sure this sounds rediculous, but it's the truth. I wanted Thanksgiving to be an UD so it was now or never.

Librarygirl- think small, medium, large (DD, MD, UD, DD, UD, etc...)

So, it will change your rotations. I was hoping to fit in a MD, yet still have the same rotations, because it will mess up the next few weeks if I change. What about the idea that EVERY holiday is a UD? Is it really, even after a UD? If you have to regulate in order to make it a UD, then it's really just planning, isn't it? I suppose I should read the book.

I think the book did say that holidays were UDs, but I just changed my rotations since I would rather not have 2 UDs in a row going into December of all months. It can be a slippery slope when it comes to Holidays. Christmas and Christmas Eve, New Years and New Years Eve. All religious Holidays? IDK? I'm Jewish and DW is Christian. That gets to be a lot of holidays! Forget July 4th, Labor Day, Memorial Day... I would not have lost 60lbs if EVERY Holiday was an UD and my rotations were not adjusted

Makes perfect sense!

I was concerned that I was missing out on something! I can't do 2 UD in a row either. I think this has happened before and it felt I was abusing myself.
